It looks like the ride is over for Taxi Brooklyn. It’s been cancelled by NBC and won’t be returning for a second season this summer.
Taxi Brooklyn follows Cat Sullivan (Chyler Leigh), a tough NYPD Detective who doesn’t let a demotion to foot patrol stop her from trying to find her father’s killer. She finds an unlikely ally in Leo Romba (Jacky Ido), a taxi driver from Marseille. The rest of the cast includes James Colby, Jose Zuniga, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Heck, Ally Walker, and Raul Casso.
The series debuted last June 25th to an unimpressive 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers. The numbers didn’t improve over the course of the season which averaged a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.0 million viewers.
The season finale of Taxi Brooklyn aired in September 2014 and there hasn’t been any official word from the network regarding the show’s fate. That’s certainly not a good sign, especially if viewers were hoping to see a second season this summer.
Late last year, executive producer Gary Scott Thompson indicated that things weren’t looking good and that they were “running out of time” — likely an indication that the cast contracts would soon expire. Earlier this year, he wrote that, “If history is any indication, we will probably never have official word” [on Taxi Brooklyn’s fate].
When reporting that Leigh had joined the pilot for Supergirl on CBS, TVLine noted that Taxi Brooklyn would not be returning to NBC for a second season.
NBC licensed the show from EuropaCorp Television so their costs are lower. EuropaCorp could potentially produce a second season and find another US outlet to air it but there’s been no word of that. Thompson has said that “it’s up to nbc.”
What do you think? Did you like the Taxi Brooklyn TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch a second season on another channel?
Great show !
Renew it!!! NBC is stupid for canceling it.
Thoroughly enjoyed Taxi Brooklyn and would definitely watch, along with my friends, if the show returns for a second season. This was a well-written series
I really like the show. The best part it was funny too. It’s a shame they cancelled. So many good shows are cancelled while all those dumb reality shows are still going on. Ridiculous.
NBC tends to cancell the good shows sn keep the bad. We quit eatchi g it, Netflix id much better!
Jacky Ido is a terrific actor in a one note program that lacked subtlety, sophistication, and continuity between episodes. Ido’s character had depth, but, was stifled, bullied, put upon, and regularly punched by the female lead and a cast filled with stereotypical finger-pointing, yelling, over-the-top cops. As an actor, he deserved a better cast and as an audience, we deserved a more authentic story. Taxi Brooklyn gave us mobbed-up Italians, Latino gangbangers, and white guy FBI agents. Old news to today’s series viewers. The only highlight, aside from Jacky Ido, was the showcased Brooklyn scenery. The camera should have lingered… Read more »
Agree 100%
I would definitey watch a second season o more. How can you end a series with so many unfinished sory lines having viewers on the edge of their chairs Sort of how the series 24 and Longmire ended. Definiely a turnoff to the associated networks for each series.
I think the series was left with all ends open and very annoying for Netflix to pick up season 1 without knowing for sure that there would be a season 2′ or at least a tying a up of the characters plots. I was glued to the series and absolutely HATED being left high and dry. The characters picked up speed as the episodes progressed and really SHOULD have been continued…….I can assure you, I shall not begin another series unless I know it is completed.
i want taxis brookyln renewed this year cause it is a awesome show to watch all day long when do you think the next season 2 will be released this summer .
The show is awesome! I just found it on netflix i cant stop watching. I really hope they come out with more seasons. With good promotion this show would be a hit!
i really want a season 2 for this tv show, nbc should find a way to ake thi happen
I have thoroughly enjoyed Taxi Brooklyn and would love to see it continue with more episodes.
I was looking forward to season 2 of Taxi Brooklyn. Why is it all the good shows get canned? I was watching it the next day on my own demand. If it gets moved to another network yes I will watch. Thank you
netflix need to produce taxi brooklyn NBC LOST A GREAT SHOW
I agree… good show
At least make a movie closing all the stories.
