Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

Other people besides the 18-49 demographic like to watch
quality tv. C’mon FX! We buy products too. And we like Terriers!!
Along with your other quality programming. Don’t kill a golden
goose.
Please, please, please reconsider FX!! Cannot believe that yet another great show is gone when there is so much junk (Euphemism!) polluting the airwaves. Reconsider!!!!
I wish I had the money to start up my own tv network, with every past show that was cancelled due to ratings (read: advertiser dollars), and create other original shows. Maybe even steal shows from the other non-deserving networks, when they have a property that they just don’t have the realization that they have a great show on their hands.
I really do love my country, but it makes me sick that we have such a dredge of society that keeps the endless tripe of reality shows in business…
What a shame that such a well written show gets cancelled. I watched it faithfully as a matter of fact I just Googled the show to see when the new season was going to begin. I hope that the writers and producers of this series look for a new home or take these guys to the big screen. I liked the characters and the storyline these are two guys I can relate to as a viewer. This was real downer man!
Why am I not surprised? This show was too good to stay on. The general viewing public is as stupid as the average voter. That’s why GW Bush was elected twice and why Survivor and Dancing, etc. garner huge audiences. Americans, in general, are stupid.
FX,
I feel you are making a big mistake by not bringing back Terriers.
A tv show like this will need two seasons and maybe a different time slot in order to proof itself. Please reconsider bringing this show back, for there is limited quality tv shows.
awwwww cmon! i know im biased, as a native San Diegan (who has spent a whole lot of time in O.B), but that aside, this was a QUALITY SHOW, something that is becoming increasingly hard to find on TV nowadays.
PLEASE FX! consider a new night for this gem! the world deserves a chance to see it!
My husband and I just stumbled into this great series by way of a friend and were really looking forward to another season. I have no idea why one would choose the trainwrech of watching yet another housewives when we could watch something which still shows our flaws as humans but from a comical and entertaining perspective. Many shows do not have the numbers straight away but canceling them in a couple of episodes or a season does not give enough time to capture everyone’s attention – especially with a name like “Terriers,” where the explanation of the title does… Read more »
As Stated by previous comments this show was one of the best new shows out there. Considering that the shows currently out there are sad reruns of old shows like Hawaii 50, or yet another tired reality show. FX did not realize the diamond in the ruff that Terriers is. Shame on you FX for not having a set balls.
I am SO SICK of good TV shows coming along and then getting canceled. Meanwhile we are bombarded with crap like “Dancing with the Stars”, “Jersey Shore” and stupid formulaic cop shows that are all the same (CSIs, Law& Orders, Hawaii 5-0…)
My husband and I are so disappointed to read that Terriers has been cancelled. We have been telling others to look for it because of the original writing , great casting, and superior acting. When watching this last season we could hardly wait for the next episode and were looking forward to the next season. I can’t figure out why such a great program is out when there are so many worthless programs that keep going and going and going !
Sad. Excellent writing, excellent show, excellent acting and its cancelled. Was looking forward to second season. Too bad it ran during the interruption of fx for dish subscribers.
Channel after channel of shows with snotty teenagers or wannabe stars doing the rhumba and this show is the one that gets cancelled???? WTF!! This is one of the best shows that has hit the air in a long time. The characters and story line left me aching for next season and now this?? This show deserves a second season!
Great show my. Parrott Loue whistles the theme song please bring it back , jail or Mexico we need to know
Are you f-in kidding me! Another great show gets the axe. I absolutely loved this show and couldn’t wait each week to sit down and watch it – sometimes twice! The story lines were always great and the season long plots kept me interested. I couldn’t wait for next season to start and now the network exec’s have pulled the plug! It amazes me that a show of this caliber gets the boot yet other crappy shows remain on the airwaves. You have no idea how disappointed I am that it won’t be returning! Shame on you FX for not… Read more »
