Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

I had just finally gotten around to watching this show and couldn’t believe how much I loved it. And now to find out that it is canceled, I’m really sad. I do blame the show’s title. It was definitely part of the reason it took me so long to get to. I’m really going to miss these characters.
They finally get a good show and then cancel it. Morons!!
How can Donal Lougue star in 2 great shows that get cancelled after one season? Knights of Prosperity was one of the best shows ever. Terriers was quite good as well.
The show grew on me, and I’d keep watching it. I’m sorry it was cancelled. A key appeal is that it simply feels different than most typical TV. Part of that is due to the slightly peculiar script writing; I know these characters are supposed to be unusual, but some of the things that came out of their mouths just weren’t quite believable; but still enjoyable. I really liked the sense of place; I felt I was in their neighborhood, not that San Diego burbs are that fascinating, but it proves if you can get any feel for a place… Read more »
so bummed that this show got cancelled. I watched it every week online because I couldn’t never make it to watch it on TV, but I still loved it. Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James are both very talented (and HOT) actors and I would love to see more from Hank and Brett. Such a shame! The second to last episode was AMAZING btw. So mad…
Can some other network pick this show up? This is really my favorite show. What can we do to get this back on. It’s wonderful, I just happened on it one day and it quickly became one I never miss and look forward to. PLEASE don’t cancel it.!!!!!
I was very upset when I read that it was cancelled…
Thought it was a great, edgy show that was different from so much of the normal crap on TV.
And Logue is a great actor
TV execs are such morons! With all the juvenile trash on television, they cancel a show that is both intelligent and savvy. It reminds me of Hill Street Blues a couple of decades ago. At least in that case, the critics acclaim got it moved to another time slot and it eventually became a ratings success. I am quietly hoping that Terriers gets another chance on another cable network. Absolute morons.
The only TV show I’ve looked forward to watching in a very long time. So disappointed!
We are not avid watchers of tv, probably because most everything on tv is pretty banal. We have watched Terriers from the first episode (initially out of curiosity and because we live in San Diego) and at the same time started watching Hawaii 50. We stopped watching Hawaii 50 after 3 episodes – waaaaay too over the top and predictable. On the other hand, Terriers has been a truly inspired and entertaining show. The characters are fun, the scripts are intriguing and intelligent, and almost every actor has displayed incredible talent – believable in character development, easy to identify with,… Read more »
I just watched the Terriers season finale on Hulu. I immediately looked to see if it had been cancelled because I had checked the news on the show earlier in the season and had read that the ratings were low. This decision, then, does not come as a suprise. It does, however, come as a disapointment. I loved this show. Everything about it. The writing was a fantastic mixture of funny and poignant and whatever a good adjective is for encapulating that quintessential prime-time-action-crime-show thing that they did so well here. The acting was far better than I know how… Read more »
This show is awesome and with some reruins and little more time I think this show could really prove it’s worth. Please let this sho go on for at least one more season to give it a good quality trial run….
Great show. Blame the FX execs for cancellation. Awful name and poor marketing doomed this series from the start.
LET THE SHOW TO CONTINUE TO DEVELOPE IT IS WORTH IT!
I just found out it was cancelled! I love this show my husband is going to have a fit when I tell him,not looking forward to that! This is a fresh gritty fun show Logue and James are great together! These net work dopes need to stop axing shows and properly promote them …….We are watching just give these good new shows a chance and get better PR people who know how the job they are doing is suppose to work!
