After more than two years in development, a reboot of The 4400 TV series has been ordered by The CW. The network gave the remake a straight-to-series order, meaning that a pilot has not been produced.
Airing on USA Network from July 2004 until September 2007, The 4400 series stars Joel Gretsch, Jacqueline McKenzie, Mahershala Ali, Laura Allen, Patrick Flueger, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Chad Faust, Kaj-Erik Eriksen, Samantha Ferris, Jenni Baird, Brooke Nevin, Conchita Campbell, Karina Lombard, Billy Campbell, and Peter Coyote. The story begins as a mysterious ball of light deposits a group of exactly 4,400 people near Mount Rainer in Washington state. These people had all previously disappeared in a beam of light, starting as far back as 1946. None of them have aged since their disappearances nor do they have any memory of where they’ve been.
The original 4400 series aired for four seasons and 44 episodes. The series was cancelled in December 2007, reportedly due to low ratings, budget costs, and the ongoing Writers Guild strike. As you might expect, the drama series ended with a cliffhanger.
The new version of the series comes from co-executive producer Ariana Jackson, Laura Terry, and Anna Fricke. The latter recently rebooted Walker, Texas Ranger for the CW. Jackson wrote the script for the reboot. Deadline reports:
In The 4400, 4400 overlooked, undervalued, or otherwise marginalized people who vanished without a trace over the last hundred years are all returned in an instant, having not aged a day and with no memory of what happened to them. As the government races to analyze the potential threat and contain the story, the 4400 themselves must grapple with the fact that they’ve been returned with a few…upgrades, and the increasing likelihood that they were all brought back now for a specific reason.
There’s no word yet as to when the new version of The 4400 will premiere.
What do you think? Did you watch the original version of The 4400 TV series? Do you plan to check out this reboot on The CW?
Please, please give us a season five of The 4400! I could post comments on here all day long but just wanted to say please please we need a season five on the CW!
I can’t wait for a new season of The 4400 ( #the4400)on CW! I loved this show on #Netflix! I binge watched it!
SUPER, Original Four Seasons! I was “Hooked” right away! Please do a Continuation. Loved, Loved, Loved the Show and the Original Cast!
I loved the 4400 so hyped about its return!!!!!Can’t wait
Yes. I will watch The 4000.
I would def give it a shot. I wasn’t into tv in the 90’s/2k’s. So, the last 10 years i’m catching up on lots that i missed first time around & liking it very much via Netflix. I’m on Season 3, I’m attached to all the actors on here, so it’ll be tough to like rebooted characters. But, i’d still give it a shot. Agree w/another commenter, i love og Tom/Diane. will be tough shoes to follow. Also had no idea Mahershala Ali was in anything substantial pre-2010!!
Just watched the 2004 version all 4 seasons last year so unfortunately pretty pcyched. It left us cliffhanging
Will definitely give it a shot! Chanced upon it on Netflix and loved it. Reminiscent of another favorite Sci-Fi show-The X-Files. The timing for the reboot is excellent as there were parallels, particularly in the last episode, to the present climate we find ourselves in.
I’m not sure if I’d watch it without the original Tom and Diana. Shawn’s character is now on Chicago PD, doubt he will give up that gig. I HATE Netflix putting out shows with incomplete finales. I’m going to check before watching another incomplete series- whether or not the show captures me or not, I get irritated knowing they can’t do the original show any justice. Also agree-NO POLITICAL BS!
We binged seasons 1-4. Can’t wait for the reboot!
Loved the original and I’m hoping that it’s the same also cuz when I heard about walker I told my 80 year old Parents they love the original and are bored as am I, but here’s hoping or I could always go to Netflix and watch the 4400 again
unfortunately it seems like all the shows that CW has continued or tried to reboot or a little bit too sexualized and I don’t mind so much the social justice warrior vibes but it’s not gonna be the same as the original I can tell you that for sure already. sad.
I will watch the first episode. I will then decide if they have done the original justice. I also agree with Julie that I don’t want any political correctness or social justice activism crap infiltrating the show. Continue the original storyline and choose actors/actresses inline with the original characters.
Its religious crap!!!!
I will watch it as long it doesn’t have any political correctness or nonsense characters. It has to have the same plot of the original one like a continuation of the last episode.
Absolutely will not watch. You cannot improve upon the original, which USA cheated us out of.
And mentioning Walker reinforces that reboots ruin the memory of the original.
Agreed with Walker because I had the same thought. Things the Walker reboot has with the original is that the lead’s name is Cordell Walker and he’s a Texas Ranger. Everything else is different.
Same thing with rebooting Charmed, redoing Nancy Drew etc.
I am excited at this news. Loved the show & hope the production is is a high quality endeavor.
Loved that show and will definitely watch the reboot. I just hope they do it justice.
