For the past two years, Septembers have been lucky months for the cast and crew of The Bill Engvall Show; their show has gotten renewed. This year, not so much. After three seasons, TBS has decided to pass on ordering another round of episodes.
The Bill Engvall Show follows the life of Bill Pearson (Engvall), a family counselor who sometimes has a hard time understanding his own family. He’s married to Susan (Nancy Travis) and together, they try to raise their three kids as best they can. The rest of the cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Graham Patrick Martin, Skyler Gisondo, Tim Meadows, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Cynthia Watros.
The sitcom debuted in July of 2007. The premiere attracted 3.85 million viewers, making it the third most-watched sitcom telecast in ad-supported cable history. According to TBS, the 10 episode season was regular cable’s highest-rated sitcom for adults 25-54. A second season was ordered in September 2007.

Season two kicked off in June of 2008 and the 10 episodes averaged 2.3 million viewers. TBS renewed Engvall for a third season in September 2008 and Michael Wright, a senior VP for TBS, said, “Their dedication to continually growing the show is evident in the work, and we look forward to a new season of even funnier episodes.”
Season three launched this past July 18th and concluded on September 5th. TBS moved the show to Saturdays and wasn’t crowing about the sitcom’s ratings this time around. They’ve now decided to cancel the program, siting a decline in ratings as the reason.
In an email, a TBS representative told AccessAtlanta, “TBS has cancelled The Bill Engvall Show after three seasons. We had a great experience working with Bill and the cast. Bill is a terrific comic, and we have tremendous respect for him. While the show didn’t attract the audience we need to renew it for another season, we’re proud of the work of everyone involved.”
What do you think? Should The Bill Engvall Show have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth year? Why do you think its ratings fell? The schedule change or something else?
Who’s that stupid ass who moved the show to saturday??? He’s job should have stopped and not the show! It’s a great family show and it is funny. Really pity that as this show is really sticking in me….and i’m from Singapore!
Sigh…no more good and funny tv series these days to watch…All violence, CSI crap, and no good family tv show…
I don’t have any sort of paid television, just regular OTA (Over The Air) television but I am enjoying watching it online and should have been ordered. Too bad Fox or other network company didn’t pick it up. It seems that it would have mellowed out the controversial period Fox was going though right about that time yet it would also push the line that ABC, CBS and NBC would not cross. Today, seems like the three competing networks have gone way beyond that line.
I liked “the bill engvall show”. it was getting a lot of viewers. I just now started watching it from season 1 episode 1 got all the way to season 3 episode 10 & that was it. it didn’t even finish. that was a sucky way to leave the viewers. “the bill engvall show definetly has my vote for getting renewed for as many seasons as they are capable of doing. well of course it got cancelled. I mean whos the idiot that decided to move it to Saturdays. what do you think would of happened if they would of… Read more »

Very creative… I sometimes write scripts for current television shows, with the expectation of them not going anywhere, just for fun. You ought to do the same. Who knows, send it to some network, they may buy it from you. Not like Bill Engvall is doing anything other than tours.
