TV show description:
It’s London 1952, seven years after the end of the Second World War, and four women reunite to track down a serial killer. Using the same skills they used to break Nazi codes at the top secret Bletchley Park (which made them a crucial part of the allied war effort), the four women are also coming to terms with what is expected of them in their mundane lives.
Now a housewife and mother of two, Susan (Anna Maxwell Martin) sees a pattern emerging when a number of women are brutally murdered. She quickly enlists the help of her former colleague Millie (Rachael Stirling) who has recently returned from traveling the world. Independent, single minded and adventurous, Millie is a progressive alternative to the stereotypes of that era and helps bring the other members to the fold.
Enter youngest member Lucy (Sophie Rundle), who has a photographic memory and unique ability to process data, and their former supervisor Jean (Julie Graham) who’s now a librarian with a knack of being able to source sometimes secret information, which will become invaluable to the team.
One problem is that Susan’s unknowing husband Timothy (Mark Dexter) is becoming increasingly suspicious and frustrated with his wife’s theories as they collide with his own career ambitions.
Episode #7 — Uncustomed Goods, Part 2
Jasper’s murdered but, thanks to corruption, no action is taken by the police. To catch the criminals and stop the trafficking of girls, the ladies plan to buy contraband. Lucy is able to memorize the gang’s encrypted ledger book. They return to Bletchley Park which is now a college where Alice’s daughter is studying. They intend to take a Typex machine but find an old Enigma machine instead.
First aired: May 4, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like The Bletchley Circle TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Yet again a great series my family and I thoroughly enjoyed only to find it will not return. How many times has this happened over the years so frustrating and yet rubbish seems to get renewed!
It should have been renewed. It is an excellent series. Great plots. It is interesting to see the things that actually took place during and after the war. There is so much trash out there why do they get rid of the great shows.
My wife and I watched this series on Netflix and couldn’t stop watching it. Great concept with excellent writing and acting. So disappointed that only 7 episodes were made. Can’t understand why it was cancelled. Why do good shows get axed while bad television goes on and on…
I am saddened to find this show cancelled. I told my teen granddaughter about it last year and this last summer she was accepted into the “Girls Who Code” program in Washington, DC. She is now applying for college and has totally changed her interest in her major because of these experiences. We have been anxiously awaiting the third season. There is generally such junk on network TV, PBS is like a light at the end of a tunnel. Please RENEW!
I loved this programme carnt believe they’ve axed it
I am a huge fan of the show. I wish there was more.
This was a fantastic series. I would love to see more
There are too many shows on television wuth far more seasons than they deserve, so why did this one only get two seasons?! Bletchley Circle, with its stellar acting and complex writing, this show is truly a work of art.
My husband and I are in love with this show! We recently found it on Netflix and we couldn’t stop watching. The characters are fantastic and the story lines are intriguing. Please, please bring it back. We are waiting for season 3!!!!!!
This is one of , if not, the best drama-mysteries I have seen in quite a long time. It would be a shame not to continue this wonderful series, assuming the cast would like to continue.
We have just devoured both seasons of Bletchley Circle on Netflix and are shocked that it was cancelled. Please campaign for Season Three. The Bletchley characters are fascinating, satisfying, and fully-realized. There are plenty of possibilities for more seasons. It’s a winner, like “Call the Midwife.”
Loved it! We hope there will be a 3rd season.
Missed the show when it first aired. Just watched the library copy of season 1 episodes back to back. What a fantastic show! Hope there will be a season 3.
Love the show, and its insight into post war Britain. Please, please bring back the wonderful show and its brilliant girls.
I really liked this show and it should be brought back.
I loved this show. Interesting because of the war, and the recovery of Britain after it. It could have gone on – well, maybe not quite forever – but . . .
