TV show description:
It’s London 1952, seven years after the end of the Second World War, and four women reunite to track down a serial killer. Using the same skills they used to break Nazi codes at the top secret Bletchley Park (which made them a crucial part of the allied war effort), the four women are also coming to terms with what is expected of them in their mundane lives.
Now a housewife and mother of two, Susan (Anna Maxwell Martin) sees a pattern emerging when a number of women are brutally murdered. She quickly enlists the help of her former colleague Millie (Rachael Stirling) who has recently returned from traveling the world. Independent, single minded and adventurous, Millie is a progressive alternative to the stereotypes of that era and helps bring the other members to the fold.
Enter youngest member Lucy (Sophie Rundle), who has a photographic memory and unique ability to process data, and their former supervisor Jean (Julie Graham) who’s now a librarian with a knack of being able to source sometimes secret information, which will become invaluable to the team.
One problem is that Susan’s unknowing husband Timothy (Mark Dexter) is becoming increasingly suspicious and frustrated with his wife’s theories as they collide with his own career ambitions.
Episode #7 — Uncustomed Goods, Part 2
Jasper’s murdered but, thanks to corruption, no action is taken by the police. To catch the criminals and stop the trafficking of girls, the ladies plan to buy contraband. Lucy is able to memorize the gang’s encrypted ledger book. They return to Bletchley Park which is now a college where Alice’s daughter is studying. They intend to take a Typex machine but find an old Enigma machine instead.
First aired: May 4, 2014.
What do you think? Do you like The Bletchley Circle TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
R E N E W P L E A S E!!
PLEASE RENEW THIS FINE PROGRAM AND KEEP TEACHING.
Very sorry to learn of its being cancelled. 2nd great British series to get the ax. The other one was women coping during WWII, right in the middle of the series when the plane crashes into the house and the woman was looking for that polish. What is the problem with British TV?
Loved the background and how it ties in to the present day. Solid characters. Very disappointing that it’s cancelled.
RENEWED!
It should be renewed!
Please don’t cancel this series!!
Carol
A terrific quality series. Too many mindless shows/series on TV that we have drifted into and accepted. Hope Bletchley Circle producers will have faith in viewers who want these shows.
We love this show!! Please bring it back! I watch it’s with my daughter and I love the strong female characters and the history they helped write!!
My husband and I love the series that just aired on PBS in our area. So sad it’s cancelled. Why do they do that to us???
This show was cancelled 3 years ago and people are still watching it. Sometimes you have to forget the ratings and keep pushing. The best of the best American shows had a rough start, but the networks held on. Breakthrough shows often happen that way. This show is that kind of show, a breakthrough for highly intelligent and trained women thrust into a different world. Plus, a nice piece of history.
Great show, just watched it again on Netflix. Wish they would have a season 3. Still can’t believe they cancelled it. So different from most shows
Great show, intelligent and thought provoking writing as well as wonderful acting. Please bring the show back. At 4+million viewers, it isn’t that bad and still make money.
Bring this show back!!!! What is going on regarding quality TV?
Just bring those great actors back and make the intelligent viewer happy!!
It is a fantastic show. Please bring it back!
The first show that I enjoyed for a long time. I’m shattered that there won’t be a season 3.
What can we do to get “them” to continue this wonderful series? One of the biggest pluses, aside from the talented actresses, is the bits of history included in much of what these wonderful episodes cover. PLEASE help us get The Bletchley Circle back!
