The end is coming for The Bonnie Hunt Show after two seasons on the air. Hosted by actress and comedian Bonnie Hunt, the Warner Bros. syndicated show has been struggling in the ratings essentially since it debuted.
The series has stayed on the air for two seasons mainly because NBC-owned stations had made a two-year deal. Warners could have pulled the plug last spring but instead showed faith and hoped that ratings would improve. Now that the agreement is coming to an end, so is The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Hunt reportedly gave the bad news to her staff on Monday morning but the cancellation wasn’t officially confirmed until last night.
By all accounts, the daytime series will remain in production and complete the season so there are lots of new episodes to come.
What do you think? Why did the show fail? Is there no room for more than a couple of daytime talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show? Or, is there something lacking in Hunt’s show?

I thinks Bonnie and her crew are sweet, caring people but they are trying way too hard to be funny.Humor is something that has to come natural. If it’s forced it in’t funny.I think she has a very kind heart and a very carng spirit.I feel like she would be better suted as a nurse or mabey working wit ids.She seems to really enjoy them so until she can have her own,if she ever dos she could work with others.I think she would do well on a show kinda like Sesame street or a show were she could have the capabiity of… Read more »
I am so terribly disappointed to hear about the cancellation. This show is a breath of fresh air. Please reconsider! Things are pretty bleak out here and Bonnie’s show is a ray of sunshine. In the Tampa market the show airs at 10 am. Please, please, please keep her on the air.
This show makes my day!!! I also like Ellen and The View, but Bonnie’s personality and honesty can’t be matched. Wish you would consider keeping this instead of all the junk my kids watch.
I have enjoyed the sweetness and wit of Bonnie Hunt forever. She is a breath of fresh air in this tawdry industry. Please save this show, it is the best morning show I have seen.
What in the world would replace it?
The show has everything, too bad Jersy Shore is the popular genre now. Educated women 30+ appreciate Bonnie’s gentility, comedic timing and sharp wit!!! Come on, keep her on.
PLEASE PLEASE do not cancel Bonnie Hunt SHow. – First off – it’s only shown here in Baltimore at 1:35 am – No wonder you get bad ratings…Why isn’t she on during the day?
She is the BEST tv talk show host. The networks have been canceling GREAT shows left and right and basically putting on more offshoots of NCIS and CSI. Like we need another no brainer show. Bonnie makes my day- Although i have to DVR her I still watch her every day. PLEASE reconsider this!
I am so disappointed to learn of the cancellation of the Bonnie Hunt Show. I am disabled and live in a wheelchair; one show that was actually worth watching on network TV was Bonnie. Her genuine, heartfelt caring for people was very obvious, as was that of her staff. It was one show I didn’t have to be concerned about having on when the grandchildren came to the house, and I can say that about all shows that are on in the mornings. Even the “Hoda and Kathie Lee” part of the Today show is a disappointment due to their… Read more »
Boy am I glad to see how many others feel the same way as I do. Finding Bonnie on the tv has been wonderful! Is it really true that she will be gone I am so surprised when you or she came up with such a wonderful concept of the 70’s 80’s and 90’s into today. All of the guests no other show offers the late night concept of Johnny C without the trash and junk of Jay and the rest. This is a show for Fox maybe she can sell it to them. I hate to think it is… Read more »
The Bonnie Hunt show is a warm, funny & entertaining show. It would be a shame to cancel. NBC needs to re-think their strategy and give Bonnie a fair chance to be seen by more people. As many comments show, people become fans after watching just one show.
In light of recent questionable decisions pertaining to late night TV, this quality show should be given another chance.
I love Bonnie and her staff. They love what they do and it shows! Wish so much that they could continue.
Jerry Springer is still on and Bonnie Hunt is cancelled? What planet is this? Bonnie Hunt is one of the best TV hosts, including Letterman and Conan. She has a live band which makes a big difference and she comes across as a “real” person, not some Hollywood “Celebridroid”. I used to watch “Live with Regis & Kathie Lee”. Regis is from the old school and while he cen sometimes be a bit over-the-top, he’s a gentleman with class. I watched for a few years after Kelly (I just LOVE my husband and my adoreable kids, especially Joaquin) Ripa. She… Read more »
I was very shocked and saddened to hear of the demise of Bonnie’s wonderful show……..growing up a midwesterner like Bonnie, I really could identify with her nostalgic memories of her childhood, etc. She reminds me so much of my sister who passed away some years ago…..fun-loving, kind, down-to-earth, a huge animal lover and rescuer, etc. It was such a “breath of fresh air” when her morning show appeared……..so much more of an improvement over “others” shown during the a.m. hours…………thought she would be around for a long time……….such tremendous quality…………and, such an obvious “kindness” that permeated the entire production…………PLEASE, PLEASE… Read more »
I just “discovered” this show and I am really dissappointed it is coming to an end. Bonnie is so funny and the show is really like visiting with your best friend!
Gee, I’ve written so much about this lately that I’d like to ask a question rather than make a comment. I know these posts have to be read by someone from the 3 networks carrying the Bonnie Hunt Show. Could someone whose reading ALL of these heartfelt pleas to retain the show give us some indication of the reason for it’s removal. Please state some reasons so her audience can try to refute them. I don’t want to watch reruns. I just found this great show and now it’s being taken away. I find that ridiculous.
@Eva Wisniewski: It’s really pretty simple. TV shows are paid for by advertising. The amount of money advertisers will pay essentially depends on how many people are watching a show and see the ads. If not enough people watch the show then the studio doesn’t make enough money to keep making episodes and they make the decision to stop. I hope that helps.
What you say has truth to it, but if I only noted that this show existed this past December, how many others are in this same predicament and why? Many good shows are pulled before many even know of their existence. I think you would agree with this. We are talking about a daily show-not a rerun of an old standard. This show is on 3 different networks and no one is promoting it. Does something seem slightly off there? If we don’t know of a show, how can we be of any help to the advertisers?
I love The Bonnie Hunt Show, and I am terribly disappointed to hear that it is being cancelled. I have watched every episode since the show began (recording the program daily to avoid missing any). Bonnie is warm, sincere, and really in touch with her audience. You feel as if you’re a part of the Bonnie Hunt family when you watch her show. NBC moved the show to a new time slot in the Los Angeles area this season, and it put Bonnie up against Oprah. No wonder her ratings suffered! NBC needs to re-think that strategy and give Bonnie… Read more »
Please, please keep Bonnie’s show on. I just heard the bad news. She and her guys make me laugh every day, I mean laugh until I cry sometimes. Her guests seem to care so much about her and visa-versa. I hope that we viewers can keep that outrageously funny and delightful gal employed on TV……daytime or night
