The end is coming for The Bonnie Hunt Show after two seasons on the air. Hosted by actress and comedian Bonnie Hunt, the Warner Bros. syndicated show has been struggling in the ratings essentially since it debuted.
The series has stayed on the air for two seasons mainly because NBC-owned stations had made a two-year deal. Warners could have pulled the plug last spring but instead showed faith and hoped that ratings would improve. Now that the agreement is coming to an end, so is The Bonnie Hunt Show.
Hunt reportedly gave the bad news to her staff on Monday morning but the cancellation wasn’t officially confirmed until last night.
By all accounts, the daytime series will remain in production and complete the season so there are lots of new episodes to come.
What do you think? Why did the show fail? Is there no room for more than a couple of daytime talk shows, like The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show? Or, is there something lacking in Hunt’s show?

Finally a funny, clean, family show is shown in the morning and we sit with our children and laugh and they are cancelled. What a shame. I guess you think we will change and watch Regis and Kelly—WELL THINK AGAIN-REGIS BELONGS IN THE OLD FOLKS HOME ALONG WITH HIS NEGATIVE HUMOR. wHY CAN’T PEOPLE SEE THAT WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS GOOD TV. tHIS is a reallly big big mistake to cancel such a wonderful show..Can’t someone help us?
Folks as sad as this cancellation is for all of us, there are only 560 posts complaining and one I saw was happy…so 559 unhappy. Sadly even if all of us called Warner Bros. That is not enough folks to save this wonderful show. Petitions are only good if they are truly SIGNED with pen and ink.. not the least bit valuable by e-mail. As for being a viewer … know.. we have NO power. WB doesn’t give a gosh darn what we think out here. TV is a monopoly.. we watch the junk she show. IF there is one… Read more »
I am so sad to see this show cancelled. I think it is a BIG MISTAKE! This show is a refreshing change and so very upbeat! It is one show that makes you feel hopeful! She presents things in a way that gives the viewer a chance to involve themselves in a positive way. I wish this network would change it’s mind.
I just started my summer vacation and was so looking forward to watching Bonnie in the mornings~~WHY? Is it really that the people would rather watch crap like Jerry Springer~~and not a Good Clean Funny Funny Show like Bonnie has~~I hope Bonnie you have time to read what all of these fine people feel for you!! WE LOVE YOU BONNIE AND WILL MISS YOU SO MUCH~~~~I HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE!
I’m also sad that the Bonnie Hunt Show is being cancelled. I can’t believe…….finally we get a good television show and now they cancel it. We need Bonnie for her quick wit and versatility for the fun and serious side of things. Love the cast and crew…….seems to be one big family. Charlie, the dog and Alice, the mom were great as well. This show was so different and so good. I’ve written this many times and no one is listening. Seems there are many who feel the same way. Maybe we should boycot Warner Bros. I think that maybe… Read more »
I am surprised that this high quality show would be cancelled. I believe that there was not enough time with Bonnie and her humor. She is bright, clever, funny and warm–all the qualities we admire and try to emulate. I found myself so entranced by her monologues that when the guests came on, I would leave. Everyone isn’t that impressed with movie stars. I think more stimulating guests with some info would have helped, interspersed with more of her humor. She has such a gift, it will be such a waste of talent to take her out of view from… Read more »
I just found out this week the show is being cancelled and I’m so sad to see the show go. Bonnie and her crew are so uplifting and funny and joyful to see each morning when I get up. We see the news on the other 3 stations in the morning, noon and at dinner time and at 11pm and don’t want to hear it 24/7! Warner Bros should reconsider cancelling her show and give her more time. I know so many people who love the show. We love Bonnie, her love of her mother and animals and most of… Read more »
I love the Bonnie Hunt Show, the crew and especially her mom, Alice. I record the show and when my
family gets home at night, we watch it. “The Feel Good Moment of the Day” segment of the show is also our favorite. She has great guests.
Daytime televisioin is pretty bad. I look forward to the Bonnie Hunt Show each day. I wish there were
some way to save the show or get it picked up on another network.
There is a Save The Bonnie Hunt Show petition. Everyone needs to sign it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is this petition located?
P.S. Does anyone out there know the exact date of her last show? I know there will be rerun’s till the new season starts but I’ve searched the net and can’t find a concrete answer to this or what will fill it’s time slot, it’s as though we not only don’t get a vote but we can’t find out anything else either!!
Her website says there are new episodes through May 28. I’m going to miss this show so much. Stupid Warner brothers. They will probably put on yet another hour of the Today show! LOL. I can’t imagine what they could possibly put in her spot. Certainly nothing with as much quality and originality.
I’m also curious why everyone that’s written in says it’s NBC. Here in Missouri, it’s on ABC, so I think it’s more about Warner Bros. and I wrote to them as well, write them and your local affiliate to let your voice be heard. Why is it as a huge group we can’t save a show? Let them both know how you feel, it’s about time we had an opportunity to be heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Bonnie Hunt Show is a real treat! And of course, because those “ratings” matter more than public opinion, her show has been cancelled. Metrics don’t always win the day, oh great managers at the top, or tell the actual story. Ms. Hunt’s show was a real treat…fun and informative, exactly what we need in that time slot. I’m very sorry for this terrible decision. We all lose. All the best to Ms. Hunt…she’s a real talent!
NBC has made several bad moves lately , and taking bonnie Hunt off the air is one of them. I hope she goes to another network. she has a great show. In fact even better than Ellen and Oprah. Very entertaining. I’ll miss her show.
I watch the Bonnie Hunt Show every day since losing my job last year. I look forward to it and will miss it very much. I hope this gets to the people in charge so they’ll know that just because the Nielsen ratings households aren’t watching it as much, there are a lot of us who do. Promoting the show would have helped. I watch a lot of TV but didn’t even know about the show until I came upon it by accident. I hope her show will be picked up by another network. Remember, M.A.S.H. and the Mary Tyler… Read more »
I couldn’t be more dissapointed in morning tv for taking Bonnie off. I wasn’t really sure how I would like her when she started and now it’s the funniest part of my day. It gets me moving and I so enjoy her fresh sense of humor. There has been nothing like her in the mornings. I used to enjoy Tony Danza and you did the same to him for no reason. Why don’t the powers that be take polls all over the u\United States to get a real feel for how the public feels, because apparently all these folks wouldn’t… Read more »
