Earlier this month, the peacock network debuted The Cape, a new superhero action TV show. Interestingly, they’ve put it in one of Heroes’ old timeslots. Will The Cape last as long as the Tim Kring series or will it be quickly cancelled instead?
The Cape stars David Lyons as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force. He finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Vince is then forced into hiding, leaving his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (Ryan Wynott) behind. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their home city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.
The TV series debuted on Sunday, January 9th, with a special two-hour event. It attracted a decent 2.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.45 million total viewers. NBC reran the pair of episodes the following night. The next Monday, The Cape dropped a staggering 30% in the demo to a 1.8 rating and 6.22 million. Last night, the ratings fell another 11% to a 1.6 demo rating and 5.84 million viewers.

Currently, The Cape ranks as the 10th most watched scripted series on the network, tied with Community. It ranks as high as it does because of the premiere’s ratings and because NBC’s schedule as a whole isn’t doing all that well. For a series that’s been on the air for just three weeks, The Cape is already not in good shape. If the ratings continue to decline, it’s almost certain to be cancelled.
The network ordered 13 episodes but, for now, only eight of them are scheduled. Another struggling series, The Event, is scheduled to take back the timeslot on February 28th. If The Cape’s ratings continue to sink, one has to wonder if NBC will even bother to schedule the remaining five installments.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Cape? Do you think NBC should keep running it or just cancel it now?

Keep it. This is a great show with a great cast. It needs time to develop the characters. Need to know more about Orwell, Raia, Rollo, and Ruvi. Make it more interesting by giving Summer a more active role other than being a beautiful prop. Portman is already wearing a cape. Why not let Summer or Max BE the Cape when Vince is “not available” to deal with an event. More Capes will confuse the enemy and villains.
I actually liked it and am looking forward to the next episode. I never thought I would say that. I also think that Summer Glau may be hotter than I originally thought.
We’ve got plenty of superhero shows that show us “the reality” of the world and keep us in line of what can really and really not be done, but this is truly old school fun. We know that 98% of the show is far fetched and impossible, but we need something that’s a stretch. I also enjoyed that the show doesn’t spend a lot of time on details. It just gives us the outcome (how he got the cape to grab stuff, the little amount of time it took him to train into awesomeness, how no one recognized him without… Read more »
This show is Fraking awesome!!!! it’s very well done . . . better than Smallville
I’m with Lionel on this one, I simply watch the show for Summer Glau. What I would honestly love is for them to cancel this and bring back Terminator:The Sarah Connor Chronicles….
What about having both TSCC and The Cape on tv. More Summer Glau!
Summer Glau is back on TV…. sorry, I guess I missed the rest. What did you say?
Seriously, i’m a big fan of Summer but i don’t see her only from a “fanboy’s pinup” point of vue; that would be too reductive, considering how amazing she is as an actress.

I am not yet sure whether it should be cancled or not. Whether you like it or not depends on your ability to leap with the show. I won’t lie, though. While the pilot is well-executed, once I get into hour two of NBC’s planned two hour premiere, I got the feeling that this may be too much of a good thing in one sitting.
I love this show it is fun and entertaining and for some reason people don’t the the main character I don’t understand why some people are saying because he loves his son too much. I don’t get it this is a great show we don’t need another reality/doctor/cop/lawyer show
The show is… “OK”… Only reason I have kept watching is I like Summer Glau, If she wasn’t in it, would probably not go out of my way to watch it…
Heroes was soooo much better then this though and still ticked at NBC for dumping it…
This show is utter Junk— get rid of it to make room for something better (hopefully)!
Awful show…
If I hadn’t already said that “Bob’s Burgers” was the worse show ever, this one would have been…
Poor characters, another Summer Glau show that is going to get cancelled, unlike Terminator though this one deserves it.
People want to judge but they have no basis. This is not a prewritten comic character but a hero unfolding before our eyes. The character must be given an opportunity to develop especially since the character is treading new territory. Please no more reality shows, game shows and spin offs of bad acting.
I love the series and so does my son! What a interesting character set and great storyline. NBC should give it a chance but they probably won’t and yet another show that could be good if given a chance will be pulled.
cancel it something i dont want to see again
Bad batman rip-off… Uninteresting main character. Uninteresting villains. cliched supporting characters. Stupid superpowers (seriously? a cape…?). Lack of believability in the writing: (before becoming a superhero the man gets cornered by a police force but still escapes. Also he keeps visiting his kid, but his kid doesn’t recognize him or his voice?).
The show is very unoriginal and the poor execution/bad writing just makes it even worse. The only positive of this show is the cast.
I love sci-fi and action shows, but this show sucks.
