Earlier this month, the peacock network debuted The Cape, a new superhero action TV show. Interestingly, they’ve put it in one of Heroes’ old timeslots. Will The Cape last as long as the Tim Kring series or will it be quickly cancelled instead?
The Cape stars David Lyons as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force. He finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Vince is then forced into hiding, leaving his wife Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (Ryan Wynott) behind. Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken their home city, Vince becomes “The Cape” — a vigilante and his son’s favorite comic book superhero. Others in the cast include James Frain, Keith David, Summer Glau, Dorian Missick, Martin Klebba, and Vinnie Jones.
The TV series debuted on Sunday, January 9th, with a special two-hour event. It attracted a decent 2.6 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.45 million total viewers. NBC reran the pair of episodes the following night. The next Monday, The Cape dropped a staggering 30% in the demo to a 1.8 rating and 6.22 million. Last night, the ratings fell another 11% to a 1.6 demo rating and 5.84 million viewers.

Currently, The Cape ranks as the 10th most watched scripted series on the network, tied with Community. It ranks as high as it does because of the premiere’s ratings and because NBC’s schedule as a whole isn’t doing all that well. For a series that’s been on the air for just three weeks, The Cape is already not in good shape. If the ratings continue to decline, it’s almost certain to be cancelled.
The network ordered 13 episodes but, for now, only eight of them are scheduled. Another struggling series, The Event, is scheduled to take back the timeslot on February 28th. If The Cape’s ratings continue to sink, one has to wonder if NBC will even bother to schedule the remaining five installments.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Cape? Do you think NBC should keep running it or just cancel it now?

Ok, so it’s not Shakepeare, but I think it’s a reasonable start. Part of its charm is that it’s a bit ridiculous and has a clicheed superhero storyline. I for one enjoyed it – looking forward to next week to see how it progresses.
What some reviews say, that the show can’t decide what it wants to be… I don’t see it. The tone is consistent, the little bits of humor are not off-place, they are well integrated.
Overall, I like it. The best part, of course, the music. It’s simple, it’s Bear McCreary. And the world… it feels real. As crazy as that may sound, it feels real. They’ve created a great atmosphere, which to me is extremely important.
Truth is, why tear apart a new show give it time! Seriously whats better than a FUN superhero show! Dexter sure is the most amazing show on earth along side of the Drama of Smallville, but shows should fun and entertaining, not another ER in the jungle off the grid! LOL sorry I had to! A show that was amazingly acted and never got its shot was “Legend of the Seeker”, now The Cape may become bigger and better than HEROES eventially, but WE WILL just have to see.
Nitpick and criticize all you want, “The Cape” is still one of the most entertaining tv shows I’ve seen in a long while, crammed with brilliant actors in a very fun story. It as a true-to-genre comic book-based series, and a very good one, at that. Either go with it and really enjoy yourself, or switch channels! I’m staying with this one. Sure hope the network will…..
THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT!
Summer Glau is back on TV…. sorry, I guess I missed the rest. What did you say?
Seriously, i’m a big fan of Summer but i don’t see her only from a “fanboy’s pinup” point of vue; that would be too reductive, considering how amazing she is as an actress.

This show is idiotic, cliche-ridden crap. I am STUNNED it ever got on the air. Its not “plain fun” or played for kids. That’s a cop-out for those of you who cant tell good from bad TV. A lot of shows have already been cancelled this season, and a great deal of them deserved it. Truly. But I’m sure the cast and crews of those shows are ready to MURDER networks that cancelled their shows, yet let THIS garbage on.
Haha you’re like those people who have horrible tastes in music but say that everyone else around you has horrible tastes. I understand that it is a little bit violent for kids but seriously? this show does not have many curse words, no one dies, and there is very little blood. this show is by far better than most of the other crap (the shows you probably prefer) and a whole lot cleaner too.
Just plain fun. It’s out there and knows it. Remember Batman originally played for the back rows too. It’s refreshing to watch something that knows youre not gonna take it seriously amd it doesnt throw a laugh track at you
Orwell is just enough of a mystery to keep you wondering and should allow the readers some room to run. She’s not Chloe ( from 24) but she’s got the potential to keep you wanting more.
Roll with it!

Heaven help me I think I’m falling for this show, warts and all.
Vince is a moron, but I think he’s starting to get the hang of the whole superhero thing. If the learning curve continues, I’m interested.
There’s a lot of rote exposition clogging up the dialogue, but somehow it’s not as annoying here as it is on No Ordinary Family, IMO.
Damn Summer Glau looked hot..
I say that like that was a surprise.
The whole ‘get your family back’ slant might be a bit contrived, considering Vince could just knock on their door and say ,”hi honey, I’m home.” But I guess that’s the conceit — it’s about winning back his pride, honor, respect, and clearing his name. Not exactly original in the grand scheme of things, but there hasn’t really been a series like The Cape on network television for a while.
Summer Glau speaking of Orwell : “Since the pilot, they’ve really taken our characters into storylines I never could have anticipated. Orwell has been in disguise, playing different roles and going into crazy situations non-stop.”
Wow! Cool!!
Some cliche’s in there but then what super heroes series doesn’t have something like that. Heroes was convoluted crap that went nowhere.
This series is just plain fun, and you know what? The world needs a hero.
WOW they cancelled Heroes for this? SMH!
