Since The Catch TV show was cancelled by ABC, last night’s season two finale ended up being The Catch TV series finale. Before the cancellation news broke, executive producer Allan Heinberg discussed the episode, “The Mockingbird,” and his plans for a third season.
An ABC cat-and-mouse crime dramedy, The Catch stars Mireille Enos, Peter Krause, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins, Sonya Walger, Elvy Yost, and John Simm. Gina Torres and T.R. Knight recur in the second installment.
Deadline reports that if The Catch had been renewed for a third season, job one would have been to repair the bromance between Rhys (Simm) and Ben (Krause), and “get them back on speaking terms.” Here’s more:
DEADLINE: Let’s play out both scenarios. If The Catch comes back, you’ve set it up so that there are any number of routes you could take. Ben and Rhys would be a significant plotline. Danny and Margot. All those things are in place. But if it doesn’t come back, should we view tonight’s final scene as sort of Casablanca standing-on-the-runway saying goodbye?
HEINBERG: That was our intention! We wanted to do Casablanca for the end of the show. We decided on Casablanca like halfway through the season. Ben had made a huge sacrifice for Alice at the end of Season One, and I knew that Alice had to make a huge sacrifice for Ben at the end of Season Two, and so we did the reverse Casablanca, gender-wise.
If it does end up being the series finale, I feel like it was still satisfying for me because everybody’s in love, you know what I mean? It’s sort of a happy ending. Danny knows that Margot loves him and cares about him, and Ben and Alice have this really strong connection, even though Alice’s feelings for Ethan are still sort of in play. So everybody but Val got a nice sort of romantic happy ending, and at the same time we created a situation where we can continue the conflict as we move into Season Three. So I hope it’s satisfying for people.
DEADLINE: If you get a Season Three, do you know who’s coming back? What characters would be on your wish list?
HEINBERG: As far as I’m concerned, everybody would be coming back. I would love for everybody to come back. I fell madly, madly in love with Gina Torres this year. She’s got her Suits spin-off that she’s suiting up for, but I’ve been told we could get at least four episodes with her if she was available, if not more. And Warren Christie and Philippa Coulthard would come with us, ideally as series regulars.
I mean, I’d love to see Troy, the Human Hard Drive, again, if we could.

Please do NOT cancel The Catch. I cant believe this is happening. Its hard for me to really get into some of these new shows BUT I love The Catch. I even have my husband watching and loving it. Which is saying a lot. Please reconsider cancelling it. I love this show. Thursday night is my night of shows. I hate the fact that I am all into this show and now wont know what’s going to happen. Please please bring it back.
Really like the show. As usual a another dumb move by ABC which is becoming my least favorite network after also canceling Last Man Standing.
Won’t be watching ABC anymore.
I hope you will reconsider cancelling this. I think it is worth mentioning that it had bad spot to compete with the Black List. We watched the Black list on Thursday and the Catch later on ABC. Could that be part of the problem with your numbers? I enjoy the show, the story lines, and the actors. Please bring back.
I am shocked…SHOCKED…that ABC cancelled The Catch. After the last episode, I was bummed that I would have to wait several months for the next season. Now I find out there won’t be another season! What the heck, ABC?? The show felt more like a movie than a TV series so maybe it was a “budget thang” ??? I really enjoyed it much better than “How to Get Away…” which has gotten really ridiculous and needs to be cancelled instead. How many more contrived murders can there be??
I’m with you. I love, love this show. It’s refreshing. All of the actors/actresses were excellent. There definitely was a main story ine which drew everyone in. I’d like for it to return.

Agree! HTGAWM storyline is so boring and repeated over and over. All the love stories and romance in The Catch made it fun to watch.
I was shocked as well. The show was smartly written. Actors were well suited for their roles. My only complaint is that they didn’t do more filming outside LA and the studio. Furthermore you can’t accurately judge any drama in less than 4 seasons. It’s a shame the show wasn’t picked up by another network.
Im super disappointed they’ve canceled ! Maggot is the hottest character alive! This show was awesome! Always a twist. Bring it back! You need to count hulu members! I know no one does and that is ridiculous. You’d fine you gap in numbers if you could count hulu

Loved it. Devastated that they cancelled it.. what about those of us who love it. Love Margot character… please find a way to bring it back
THIS show was the only intriguing show on TV! Watched every episode, say it isn’t so?? Bring it back! Upset that ABC has cancelled The Catxh and Nashville too soon.
Just so you know (if you don’t already) ABC may have cancelled ‘Nashville’, but the show picked up right where it left off on another network. Unfortunately, the actress who plays Rayna (sp) decided to leave in a spectacular fashion (a handful of other characters–like Layla and Luke–were written out all together). However, the CMT version is still watchable. It airs Thursdays at 9 pm EST though it’s on hiatus at the moment.
I hope another network picks up The Catch…. it’s such a good show … I never miss an episode
The Catch should not have been cancelled. The leads on Castle broke my heart when they could not iron out their differences, thus forcing ABC to cancel that show. Now ABC has gone and done it again! Who/what are you blaming The Catch’ cancellation on? I love the show.
I loved the show and all the characters. I hope it is reconsidered or picked up,else where with all the same cast.

Was so sorry to hear The Catch is cancelled. I was wondering if (suspecting that) Thursday ‘s episode was the season finale, and went surfing to find out. Very disappointed that this was the last one period. I enjoyed it like I did Castle and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, among others. Maybe if ABC hadn’t fallen in lockstep footsteps with the “premium” channels and gone with these short little seasons, the audience could have had more time to find it better. I love this show and looked forward to it every week. I don’t think it got a fair chance do to minimal advertising and only 10ish episode per season. Please reconsider!
Another great show has bit the dust along w/everything else, ABC just doesn’t keep anything. I’m still hugely disappointed in Last Man Standing being canceled and Dr Ken and now among others but I really liked this show a lot and I’m very sad it’s not coming back.. I hope another net work will pick it up..
Please bring “The Catch” back!!!! I really enjoyed watching the show. One of my favorites. I also thought it was an unwritten rule that Shondra Rhimes shows aren’t cancelled? Can she make a call to get it renewed, please and thank you.
