The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.
Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).
FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.
Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

Typical network TV. Cancel another great show, guarantee they will replace with a bad one.
This is one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time. I am sorry to see it go so soon. Please don’t cancel it! Try it on a new night or something!!! Save this awesome show!
Wow, this was a good series, I’m sorry it didn’t do better!
Good show but was never promoted at all. I am a fan of Shawn Ryan who created the Shield. It had good writing and acting and a different story lines than a lot of series. I hope they bring it back
Finally a good cop show and they cancel it………… I think Jennifer Beals is excellent
I would never have heard of this show except that a friend mentioned it. LOVE it … FOX never promoted this offering. I agree with most of the previous posts that they are very short-sighted — “channeling” NBC — cancelling really solid shows, allowing trash to remain. I swear all they care about is revenue from cable and not developing good programming for broadcast stations.
They did even promote the show enough, they cancelled breaking bad too, I guess my tv will be focused on CBS and ABC considering that NBC doesn’t have any good shows, another reason why it probably didn’t make it is because of the bachelor or some other freakin reality tv show. It’s a shame, ABC or CBS should pick it up. It would probably do better on those stations anyway
Why would want to cancel this show???? Rating im confused about. Does DVR count toward Ratings???
Just sad. But I’m sure the garbage dump American Idol will just keep going and going and going…Reality TV thrives and the good shows get the axe. This is a good benchmark of our society’s mental state.
thats the best thing sents new york undercover bein gone i like this show tavon jordan froom baltimore maryland…………
Shame on you Fox for not giving The Chicago
Code a chance to find an audience. This is
the best cop drama in years, with gripping
stories and an outstanding cast. The actors,
writers, amazing production crew, and fans
deserve better than this.
Fox are you becoming another NBC. Cancel excellent shows before they even have a chance. This is a great show and if your programming excutives can’t see that then our family will eliminate Fox from our viewing choice. Fox you are cancelled.
Was a great show, very good compared to many of the other shows, ending this and Lie To Me, no doubt House will be ended next year! Mmmmmmmmm………….no need to watch anything on Fox anymore!
Extremely short sighted on the part of FOX. Very well written, character develpment and story line is addictive – not to mention the acting is supurb. Perhaps they have a business to run but this show was definately worthy of a second season.
I am disappointed. I thought the writing and acting were outstanding.
What a shame!!! This is it for me and FOX! This was actually a very very good show, as most people have said, well written plot and very captivating.. I was looking forward to season 2.
