The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.
Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).
FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.
Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

I enjoyed the show and was disappointed to hea that it was cancelled.
All of the good shows are canceled, even with strong fan bases, because of DVR and other internet streaming media. I DVR everything so I can fast forward through the commercials and watch the show on my time, not the networks. Unfortunately this does not equate to good numbers for the execs of the network and more importantly the advertising. Nielsen ratings are an archaic system, in today’s society, in order to gather numbers representing the popularity of a show. A new system must be devised in order to account for DVR views and views from other outlets. Shows like… Read more »
I can’t believe this show is being cancled. I blame fox for this. I don’t believe that they had enough advertisement for this show. All I see is advertisement for American Idol and the family guy If this show had the advertisement that these shows had or even the great show 24 (when it was on) it would have had more views. This was a fantastic show. I hope some other network picks it up. Very disappointed viewer.

Unbelievable! This is a great show. If you look at the ratings, look at the reviews, they all say the same thing, “this is a great show”. Yes, it may not be the most groundbreaking, but the characters are so real, the storylines are rich and engaging. Last night’s episode, literally had me on the edge of my seat, sweating and heart racing, hoping that Liam survives his gunshot wound. I yelled at my television set, “Punch him, Jarek! Punch HIM!!!” when Alderman Gibbons tried to blackmail him with the identity of his brother’s killer. No cop show, no crime… Read more »
Chicago Code was the best cop show since Wiseguy. I can’t believe it is canceled. At least give it a chance at one more season. FOX is becoming my unfavorite channel canceling this show and Lie to Me and Human Target, all innovative and entertaining with high quality writing and acting.
Move it to FX, where it can be edgier.
That would be awesome!!!!!!!!
Please keep The Chicago Code. THIS IS THE BEST COP SHOW IN A VERY LONG TIME. All the Actors are great. PLEASE DONT CANCEL THIS SHOW
Please please please keep this show going!!!! I love it! It is getting soooo good!
Keep Chicago Code! Great show.
Fox, please, keep Chicago Code!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t understand why it didn’t get better ratings. Chicago Code had fine acting, good scripts and great locations for shooting each episode. Fox should have given the show more time to prove it’s worth, maybe in a different time slot. We’ll miss you Chicago Code!
OMG!!! How can you cancel such a hit show! The actors are so deep and real that they capture you in a moment. Please try to keep it on, I look forward to watching this show every Monday night. Oh yeah, Aldeman is the best!! Wysocki, come on!!! I love the drama. Don’t cancel!!! PLEASEEEEEEEE!!!
This is very sad. I really love this show. There is great acting with a great story line. I dont think fox should cancel it. There has got to be a way to keep this show on. I think its an added bonus that it is in Chicago. Most crime/cop shows are based in NYC,LA, or Vegas. It is nice having one based somewhere different. I am very sad to see this show end.
I can’t believe this show was canceled either when I just read this. This show was really good! Great cop show! Awesome drama. Please bring back. The time on TV wasn’t good for me but me and my family have been watching this show on Hulu this whole time and now we are all disappointed. Please bring it back fox.
Keep Chicago Code!
