If you’ve been looking forward to watching The Code TV show on CBS this Monday night, you’re going to be disappointed. The network has pulled the drama series from the schedule. Will it back? Has it been cancelled?
A military legal drama, The Code stars Luke Mitchell, Anna Wood, Ato Essandoh, Phillipa Soo, Dana Delany, and Raffi Barsoumian. The story unfolds at the Judge Advocate General Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia and centers on the prosecutors, defense lawyers, and investigators who work on the legal challenges facing the U.S. Marine Corps.
The first season of The Code debuted in April drew pretty low ratings, right from the start. The eight aired episodes have averaged a 0.57 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.10 million viewers in the live + same day ratings. It’s one of CBS’ lowest-rated scripted shows of the 2018-19 season.
The Code has been pulled from the schedule and will, for the immediate future, be replaced by reruns of Magnum PI. Right now, the plan is for The Code to return on Monday, July 1st, but those plans could change.
While The Code hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, CBS pulling the series from the schedule certainly points in that direction. Some of the series’ small audience will get out of the habit of watching the program and the first week in July is traditionally one of the lowest-watched weeks of television. The ratings for the next episode will be much lower than they have been.
If there was any hope of The Code surviving to see a second season, I think this move makes it clear that CBS has given up on the series.
What do you think? Do you like The Code TV show? Do you think it will be cancelled? Would you watch season two?
Very disappointing news on this show. Being smart as opposed to (unrealistic) action-packed usually spells death, and leaves we small minority who like “smart” in the cold. Thank goodness for streaming channels.
I like the show , hope they bring it back for more seasons.
Find find The code to be very interesting, it’s hard for me to find new series to watch. This one I would keep watching if it would be renewed.
The show needed to have like a military advisor. It wasn’t like a JAG at all and I even think to this JAG would beat it. The show though was something I didn’t mind watching. If they bring it back, please hire a military advisor and make it like the old JAG version. That’s what got people enjoying the show.
Sam, in what ways do you think a military advisor would help this show, i.e., how does “The Code” fail in its depiction of military protocol? As much as I love “JAG” (I am re-watching all episodes, beginning with Season 1 right now), it was very difficult for me to keep the ranks of the officers straight, and I was constantly having to ask Google to explain military abbreviations, e.g., “C.A.G.” and “ROI.” I believe “JAG” relied more on the investigations leading to the revelation of the actual “bad guys,” rather than to the courtroom activity that “The Code” employs.… Read more »
It was a poor man’s JAG, but eminently watchable. I hope it returns to prime time.
Please add The Code to the Fall lineup. And continue the series this summer on Monday night! Best new show on CBS
I hope they don’t cancel it but that’s what usually happens to the good shows. So sad……. fingers crossed
I enjoy the show and will continue to watch it. I would like to see it continue.
I love this show. There is too much drugs and sex in most shows this is a welcome change.
Give the Show a Chance, put it in a better spot, it went up against Basketball Playoffs, and if, if it continues, it will be against Monday Night Football.???
I enjoyed the show, since Jag went off the air, this was a freash look at the same theme as Jag.
please Keep
I don’t understand how a network can debut a show in April and expect it to have good ratings. They put it on after Man With a Plan which, although a very funny show, is no ratings barn burner itself. Put some episodes on in September when people are looking for new things to watch.
The networks canceled good shows, but this was not one of them. This was an abomination to TV audiences everywhere. When compared to The Fix, Whiskey Cavalier, and The Enemy Within, I place it dead last. As such, what are the networks doing wasting time, and why wasn’t either The Enemy Within or WC not canceled? There is no reason, as there is none for the cancellation of Life In Pieces — HYSTERICAL! What garbage will we have to endure this fall? Additionally, within 3 minutes, I knew that The Good Fight would suck, and I hope it’s canceled. The… Read more »
I love The Code ! Please don’t cancel it!!
I belated watched all 8 eps, and got into it. I hope it survives on CBS, and if not, on a streaming platform somewhere.
