If you’ve been looking forward to watching The Code TV show on CBS this Monday night, you’re going to be disappointed. The network has pulled the drama series from the schedule. Will it back? Has it been cancelled?
A military legal drama, The Code stars Luke Mitchell, Anna Wood, Ato Essandoh, Phillipa Soo, Dana Delany, and Raffi Barsoumian. The story unfolds at the Judge Advocate General Headquarters in Quantico, Virginia and centers on the prosecutors, defense lawyers, and investigators who work on the legal challenges facing the U.S. Marine Corps.
The first season of The Code debuted in April drew pretty low ratings, right from the start. The eight aired episodes have averaged a 0.57 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.10 million viewers in the live + same day ratings. It’s one of CBS’ lowest-rated scripted shows of the 2018-19 season.
The Code has been pulled from the schedule and will, for the immediate future, be replaced by reruns of Magnum PI. Right now, the plan is for The Code to return on Monday, July 1st, but those plans could change.
While The Code hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, CBS pulling the series from the schedule certainly points in that direction. Some of the series’ small audience will get out of the habit of watching the program and the first week in July is traditionally one of the lowest-watched weeks of television. The ratings for the next episode will be much lower than they have been.
If there was any hope of The Code surviving to see a second season, I think this move makes it clear that CBS has given up on the series.
What do you think? Do you like The Code TV show? Do you think it will be cancelled? Would you watch season two?
I like The Code and looked forward to watching it tonight. It’s a nice departure from cop shows.
Another good show not given a chance. Come on CBS, don’t pull this show for a repeat of a reboot.
CVS isn’t like the military or anything of the military it’s a good TV show of Marines. Defending, prosecuting, and investigating military crimes in the Marine Corps one of the best shows ever right next to seal team that’s my opinion I could be wrong but I’m usually right when it comes to CBS.
Wow! The network needs to give this series more time. It was well acted and had an interesting cast of characters led by the veteran actress Dana DeLaney. It’s a shame the major networks are having difficulty competing with all the other cable channels and internet.
I loved the show. Sorry it was pulled.
This is a great show with interesting characters and smart dialogue. I have enjoyed learning more about the Marine Corps. If there are aspects of the show that aren’t consistent with Marine life, the powers that be should hire better advisors, because those who serve our country deserve to be portrayed accurately. It takes more than a few episodes to attract people to a show that makes one think. I hope CBS will recognize quality and give this show and its fine actors and writers a chance to build an audience.
So now I don’t have anything to watch Monday nights.
What a shame. A great show, well acted and one of the only two shows I watched on CBS
Very disappointed. I like The Code.
Keep the code. Never got into Jag but really like this show!!!
I enjoy the Code. My roommate and I watch it every week. We think it’s very good, please don’t cancel it cbs!
I am enjoying The Code. Using parts of the program to show examples of Military Code of Justice not just in DC but also in-Country to my HS ConLaw students.
I am enjoying “The Code”. There is a void of interesting programs currently on TV and I am enjoying programs dealing with military law that isn’t just inside the physical courtrooms in DC but also in-country. I will use these in my ConLaw HS classes when dealing with Military Law.
I really enjoyed The Code and am hoping that CBS will not cancel it. I will look forward to it coming back on the air in July
The Code is a show that deserves to be renewed. It is current, yet has enough subplots to make it more than just a courtroom/military legal show.
This show reminds me of Jag, and I would like to see it renewed for a second season. Please do not cancel it!
