Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There’s also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.
Stark noted that they are investigating different options with the full support of Universal Media Studios, the show’s producer. He said, “NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully.”
Series creator Nick Wauters added, “We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
Actor Ian Anthony Dale, Simon Lee on The Event, tweeted, “To our amazing fans, our time on NBC may be over, but we are working hard to find a new home that shares our collective enthusiasm.”
What do you think? Should The Event be saved? Where would be the best new home for the series? Would you pay to watch it?

They don’t do anything to promote these shows, then cancel them because they aren’t watched enough. They mess around with when they air so that we have no clue when the season will start. Seriously, get a clue! We aren’t circus animals jumping through TV hoops! Give these shows a CHANCE. I am at the point that I don’t want to watch anything anymore for fear it will HAVE NO ENDING and be canceled for no good reason! I think the only thing that should be canceled is your jobs!
Here we go again!!! Great shows that die before their time…. I feel sorry for you NBC….shows that are great to watch and you come in and pull the rug out from under us. Thanks for doing this to us ….AGAIN!!!!
If you are listening Netflix, I really hope that you or other network will pick this Show up……give “The Event” another chance….
P.S. NBC please dont fill that time slot with Law & Order….that ship has sailed…. NBC is: Not

PLEASE keep The Event!!!
My family really enjoys the Event. I hope they find a new home for the series!!!!!
Please somebody pick up this terrific series! I am glued to it each Monday. I would pay to watch it. Go Netflix!
Certainly, television is getting more and more difficult to enjoy. I’m getting tired of getting attached to new shows only to find them cancelled after one season. One thing that I know for sure is that it takes time to tell a story correctly. It takes time to build a character. It takes time to get us to care about these characters and what they are trying to accomplish in the story. It takes more than one season to have that story make sense. With all of the incomplete storylines whirling around out there with no definitive answers, I’m finding… Read more »
I think “The Event” is definitely worth saving! The reason ratings dropped in the beginning, in my opinion, was the time changes/flashes – it was a little disorienting! Ever since the episodes have had linear time constructs, they have been amazing! I really feel like each episode just gets better! It is a taught, believable science fiction outlet and should continue on! I adore the cast, the writing has become realistic, and the story is quite captivating! I hope someone picks it up! Consider me a loyal follower!
Tie all the story lines and bring the series to closure.
Please don’t cancel THE EVENT. The characters just needed time to develop and for the plot to be understood. The cast has very talented actors unlike many other shows that rely on stupid jokes and plastic faces for laughs and drama. Wherever this show finds a new home, I will definitely follow. I am a loyal fan. Long Live THE EVENT.
Yes, I would pay to have it. SAVE THE EVENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please please save the Event!! It’s a great edge of your seat show that deserves a chance.
I have become a devoted fan of this show. I like the premise and am very disappointed that NBC decided to cancel. Let’s hope someone else continues with this story.
I would pay to watch. It gets better with every episode.
I agree with many of the others’ comments. This show started off slow/poorly. But the story and characters have become much more plausible and detailed. In fact, we watched the last 4 episodes one right after the other – made it more understandable and interesting. It, at least, needs the opportunity for sensible closure if it is cancelled.
We love The Event! Boo NBC.
