Despite what you might have read elsewhere, the forgotten has not been officially cancelled. The show may actually return with new episodes this season. But, don’t get too excited just yet.
ABC’s the forgotten details the cases taken on by a group of talented civilians once the police can’t go any further. The series features the talents of Slater, Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, Lily Rains, and Elisha Cuthbert.
ABC recently did some reshuffling of their primetime schedule and decided to replace the March 16th and 23rd episodes of the forgotten. It was reported that the network was also calling the March 9th episode, the “season finale.”
An ABC representative has confirmed to us that that’s not the case. He tells us that the network didn’t promote this week’s episode as the season finale and may still air the remaining two installments sometime in the next several months.
The episode that aired this week, “Donovan Doe,” was originally scheduled to run on March 23rd and finish the season. That makes sense since an ongoing storyline, the fate of Alex’s long-missing daughter, was resolved in a shocking twist. The episode works well as a season finale and very likely will have to serve as the series finale as well. As we’ve discussed before, it’s a longshot at best that the forgotten will be renewed for a second season because of low ratings.
If by chance it is renewed, there’s a good chance that Cuthbert won’t be part of it. The actress has been signed for a lead role on a new comedy pilot for ABC. Happy Endings revolves around a bride (Cuthbert) and a groom who break up at the altar and try to work out how to stay friends with their four compadres.
What do you think? Are you happy that ABC at least aired the season (likely series) finale? Do you think they’ll air the remaining two episodes?

This is the only show I watch on ABC. It is awesome. Hopefully ABC will do some reshuffling and bring it back.
This is really a great show! It’s one of the few ABC show we watch, and never miss an episode. It’s refreshingly different. It shows a silver lining, giving grieving people closure. The “narration” by the victim, and the chemistry between the characters is superb. Please keep this quality show on the air!
I like this show. It needs changes and perhaps one of those would be to run arcs over one or two episodes. While I like the format I find it amusing that just when a person is becoming awkward the detective pops up and flashes her badge! In some respects, toward a group of volunteers is every person going to be THAT helpful? I’m aware we have the framework of Cold Case and that these things can be solved but sometimes it’s made to appear a little too easy. Shame about Michelle Borth leaving as I really like her as… Read more »
@Mark Dooley: You’re welcome and thanks for leaving the comment. 🙂
Wow, I am glad I got to see the finale episode. The finding his daughter part was very powerful. I did not know it was to be the last episode… so I could easily have missed it. Thank you to whoever decided to make sure the episode was made and shown. Just watched the last N8mbers as well. Again I am glad writers were given the chance to end the shows with respect for the characters.
I love this show, please give it another chance! Slater is great and the show is moving!
I love this series; especially leads Christian Slater and Heather Stephens (I was saddened when she left with no detailed backstory given to Lindsey’s past). I hope ABC brings it back for a second series, and Heather Stephens with them.
I really hope they realize what a good show The Forgotten is and the message it sends people. Everyone can make a difference and really help in important matters. Why doesn’t the network start really paying attention to what there viewers really want. So frustrating!! If they cancel this show, I am done watching ABC because they can’t get there crap together and keep decent shows..
i was really getting into that whole show dang it… put! it! back! it was almost going through wanka’s tunnel man…just when slater gets his big toe in the door ya’ll gotta slam shut on it. ya jerks!
I could tell that this was meant to be the finale. I also figured there were a couple of more shows in the can. This was a terrific episode. If a series has to be ended prematurely due to poor ratings then this is the way to do it. Too bad. The show was getting stronger. I will miss it, particularly after this episode.
I think they should have showed the “Donovan Doe” episode as the season finale. It would have made more sense to do that. But whats done is done, I still loved watching it. So hopefully, ABC will air the other 2 episodes, and “The Forgotten” will return for a second season. One can only hope that viewers will see that this series is worth keeping because it touches the core of human strength and determination that the Cast portray in finding closure for those who have lost loved ones.
This show is awesome. There is so much reality crap on tv now that the forgotten has become forgotten. The cast is good and the astorys suck u in.
I don’t want to see this series end. Bring it back!
i love the forgotten please dont cancel
I’d like to see it come back, but they still need to get better, tighter, less-cliched writing. And with both Michelle Borth and Elisha Cuthbert leaving (Borth also has landed a starring role in another pilot, a series called “Matador.”), the two strongest female characters, they’d have major recasting to do.
I think that the Forgotten is the best new show of this season. It has great story lines. And interesting characters that interact well with each other. I would not want to think that yet another great show would be cancelled. I hope to see many more shows in the future.
