Despite what you might have read elsewhere, the forgotten has not been officially cancelled. The show may actually return with new episodes this season. But, don’t get too excited just yet.
ABC’s the forgotten details the cases taken on by a group of talented civilians once the police can’t go any further. The series features the talents of Slater, Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, Lily Rains, and Elisha Cuthbert.
ABC recently did some reshuffling of their primetime schedule and decided to replace the March 16th and 23rd episodes of the forgotten. It was reported that the network was also calling the March 9th episode, the “season finale.”
An ABC representative has confirmed to us that that’s not the case. He tells us that the network didn’t promote this week’s episode as the season finale and may still air the remaining two installments sometime in the next several months.
The episode that aired this week, “Donovan Doe,” was originally scheduled to run on March 23rd and finish the season. That makes sense since an ongoing storyline, the fate of Alex’s long-missing daughter, was resolved in a shocking twist. The episode works well as a season finale and very likely will have to serve as the series finale as well. As we’ve discussed before, it’s a longshot at best that the forgotten will be renewed for a second season because of low ratings.
If by chance it is renewed, there’s a good chance that Cuthbert won’t be part of it. The actress has been signed for a lead role on a new comedy pilot for ABC. Happy Endings revolves around a bride (Cuthbert) and a groom who break up at the altar and try to work out how to stay friends with their four compadres.
What do you think? Are you happy that ABC at least aired the season (likely series) finale? Do you think they’ll air the remaining two episodes?

Christian Slater was EXCELLENT! in the “Donovan Doe” episode, but the entire season had my family rivoted on this series. Please, ABC, bring it back. We would LOVE to see the last two episodes — anytime. I was hoping that Alex’s long-long daughter could help the team solve future crimes — looking at the evidence and the world through a child’s eyes. Please bring this series back, so others can discover it. I think it had poor advertising, and I only knew about this series after seeing Christian Slater on Ellen’s Show.
“the forgotten” was a very well-written and well-acted series. The cast was top-notch, and, while I didn’t agree with writing off Lindsey (especially since we never did get to see a resolution to her storyline), I think the addition of Maxine to the cast wasn’t a poor one.
All in all, a great series, and I do hope that they decide to keep it, even if only for another season.
I was very upset with the shows abrudt closing. I was happy the Alek, Cristian’s Slaters daughter was found but upset not coming back and no notice given to faithfull listeners like me. That was very rude of Channel 7 it is a great run show. There was a beginning and an end to each episode. Unlike others that go on and on. Oh I really hope that they bring it back and give us notice as to when they do. Who makes those crazy decisions to close off shows. Not the fans…….. Please bring it back it was a… Read more »
Really enjoy the forgotten. Each episode better than the next. I hope that it comes back next season. I tape each show, so my husband who goes to bed early, can watch the next day. Christian Slater is really good in this series. If they need to bring in another top actor /actress, do it to keep the series going.
PLEASE KEEP THE SHOW ITS THE ONLY SHOW I REALLY WATCH AND IT IS REALLY GOOD PLEASE GIVE IT A CHANCHE SO MANY OF US LOST FAMILY AND ARE NEVER FOUND THID SHOW GIVES SOME OF US HOPE THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO FIND OUT HOE THEY DIED> SO PLEASE KEEP IT ON
One last thing, at least when NBC cancels shows, we do get complete DVD sets of the episodes, like the “The Bionic Woman (II)”, and “Knight Rider (II)”. ABC should do the same, and put out complete DVD sets of Eastwick, the forgotten, FlashForward, and V (II).
This was a great show, with a HAPPY ending for the lead character. It’s getting so that I’m taping every episode of shows that I like – because ABC has a nasty habit of cancelling them, usually without any reruns.
First, they cancelled the excellent Eastwick, even though it was beating Jay Leno at 10 PM; now they’ve “not-cancelled” the forgotten, and even FlashForward seems iffy; and I’ll be surprised if “V (II)” survives. This is NOT a good way to build up an audience!
REALISTIC … THOUGHT PROVOKING … AND CLOSURE FOR FAMILIES>… WHAT MORE COULD U ASK FOR ??? ABC UR MAKING A MISTAKE IF YOU DON’T GIVE THE SHOW A CHANCE … MORE PUBLICITY WOULD HELP… WE LOST FAMILY MEMBERS TO A DOUBLE HOMICIDE TWO YEARS AGO AND THEY NEVER FOUND THE MURDERER… ONE OF THE VICTIMS WAS 8 YEARS OLD … THIS SHOW BRINGS HOPE ……
I liked the show. Different. Really would like to see more. Very sorry to hear it may have been “cancelled”. I hope it returns.
I finally find a show I like and of course, it gets cancelled! I hope it comes back.
I really enjoyed this show, I waited every week to see it and so did my friends. If I was not able to watch it I taped to watch it later. I will not be watching V, dislike that show immensely.
I really like this show. I hope it comes back. I’m glad, though, that at least they resolved the Lucy storyline. Though I still want to know what Lindsey’s husband did.
I am pissed!!!!! this was my new favorite show!!!!!
I am glad they aired the Donovan Doe episode as the finale for the season. It was really a shocker and I usually figure out these things, but didn’t this time.
I hope other series will take a lesson…you can resolve one BIG mystery early in teh life of the show and people still want more, I know I do! Please don’t cancel this show. It’s kind of a nice twist on the traditional police drama..something good happens. People volunteer to “do the right thing” without being paid! Love it!
My wife and I life this show very much. It’s well written and produced. I hope that it will be coming back. I think that it has been insufficiently advertised and that it’s just a matter of people discovering it.
