After a disappointing run, ABC has decided to prematurely end the forgotten’s freshman season. Is the Christian Slater TV show being cancelled?
Airing on ABC, the forgotten follows a group of talented civilians who work together to find missing persons once the police have reached a dead end. The series features the talents of Slater, Michelle Borth, Heather Stephens, Bob Stephenson, Rochelle Aytes, Anthony Carrigan, Judith Hoag, and Lily Rains.
The show debuted on September 22nd and attracted a 2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.54 million viewers. It lost a large percentage of its lead-in and 12% tuned out before the episode was over. The second installment of the forgotten fell significantly and the rest of the season has been averaging just a 1.7 rating 6.49 million viewers.
Last week, ABC announced that they were preempting the March 16th installment of the forgotten in favor of a FlashForward recap show. Now, they’re pulling the March 23rd episode as well. Next week’s installment, “Donovan Doe,” is the episode that was originally scheduled for the 23rd and may well wrap up the season.
Considering the poor ratings, the series is very likely to be cancelled and won’t be back for season two. It also doesn’t seem likely that they’ll get around to airing the remaining two episodes anytime soon, if at all.
What do you think? Should ABC find a way to air the remaining two episodes? Should the series be cancelled? Where did the forgotten go wrong?

This show is great! I think it should come back for many more seasons!
I just watched the last night’s epsoide…I usually record it then watch it the next day…this is my all time favorite show on T.V. and would hate to have this canceled…am getting sick and tired of shows that I really start to like getting canceled…makes the reason of paying over 200 dollars a month for cable and the DVR not really worth it much longer…what happened to good taste with shows? Why keep the shows that really have no story line and get rid of those that capture interest with the mind and makes you think? Wondering now if those… Read more »
Canceling this show is a mistake on ABC’s part. Cancel some of the silly comedies you insist on running. That would give you extra time to fill with good shows like this one and the last good one of his you canceled, My Own Worst Enemy.
I really enjoyed ‘The Forgotten’. I liked the cast and the way the writers brought the life back to the ‘John or Jane Doe’. I hope ABC reconsiders the cancellation and gives the show another chance. If not I hope that another network picks it up. They keep all the reality crap on TV, for those who enjoy a good drama this was very enjoyable.
Get rid of shows like The Bachelor, ABC, instead of canceling shows like The Forgotten or Men In Trees.
I have enjoyed Christian Slater’s acting for years and I looked forward to watching The Forgotten. Its different. I hate to see it cancelled. I am disappointed to see V taking its place. Will not watch this show as I dont care for sci-fi.
This was a great show and I looked forward to every episode. It was compelling and had a great cast. It was a pleasure to see a story written and then evolve on the screen. I am so bored with the cheap reality trash that has eliminated a place for good story telling and a chance to see real talent. ABC should rethink this decision. Or the smart networks like FX, USA or TNT should pick this show up. I spend post of my viewing time on those networks as they still produce quality stories with talented actors. They take… Read more »
OMG!!
Noooo, what happened? I’m watching The Forgotten and Christian Slater’s character found his missing daughter. When they took all the posting of of his board, I felt that something wasn’t right. Low and behold, the show has been cancelled. I’m so disappointed. I really loved this show. It wasn’t blood and gore, and the story lines where great and made you think of the lives of the dead. Pleeeeease reconsider!!!
I really enjoyed the show and the concept behind it… why is it you guys take all the good shows away… if you even gave them half a chance…. Christian Slater did a remarkable job within the role given him and I loved the group that he was able to work with…. I just want to say that the show was awesome and I will be sad to see it go…
We really like this show and canceling it would be a HUGE mistake that ABC would be making. As usual when we as a family find a show without gore and bad language and entertaining ABC cancels it. What is going on with the network? Leave well enuf alone. I guess over 6 million viewers aren’t enough? Great family show, great story lines. Give the show a chance.
Too bad, love this show. Don’t they remember how lame Friends was at the beginning? Look how that turned out!
This getting ******* ridiculous. This is a good show, and the second good show where Christian Slater has done very well in(My Own Wosrt Enemy being the first and of course that was cancelled). Does any network exec. who doesn’t have their heads buried up their asses not realize not all shows dominate or do well in their first season but after a season or two create and maintain a loyal following. Two of the most popular shows of all time Cheers and Seinfeld took two seasons each before they started to take off in the ratings. They were given… Read more »
Tonight was the best episode ever. Bring it back. Maybe another network will take it up.
