Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

me back, it is a phenominal show. I am sick and tired of the reality shows. They degrade people and send a negative message to young adults. Those type of shows are garbage. I would love to see The Game and Girlfriends come back . Who’s making the decisions!!!???
This show is so great! Whether everyone was back or not, I would still watch it. I want to know what happened with Kelly and her man. Please bring it back.
I love watching The Game. I even have my husband and our teenage kids watching it. One night I had two days off together I watch ed season one to the current episodes. I laughed and I cried. Because there are some issues that really hit home in the relationship department. Because I have a 20 year old handsome son and I am Tasha Mack all day everyday. Once again, they have cut another good show. Why can’t they end a series with an ending. We, as devoted fans, deserve that at least. They did the same thing to Girlfriends, Half & Half, Kutz, etc. All were excellent shows. I looked forward to seeing those shows every week. Those in charge break their necks putting on those stupid reality shows. All reality shows do is bring out the worst in people. I am so dissappointed in the people who are making the decisions on what I should be watching.

i share the same sentiment as the other posters. This is a great show for young, progressive, professional black people. Tyler Perry can not have a monopoly on this market, (shout out to Tyler). The charecters represent a huge segment of OUR countrys populations mentality which is being shaped by what is filtered through various media outlets and by whatever knowledge that is sought out by the individual. This is one of the best shows that i’ve seen in a long time. I truly do enjoy watching the show. If there is a season four I would like to see some of the same original cast members play the part.

I have just landed here in London, England and the first thing I did ,was look to see if they are going to view the 3rd series, I AM SO SAD, that I cannot see this brilliant programme, someone PLEASE, bring it back!
The game is my favorite show I watch it everyday…thay really picked the perfect cast to work together there chemistry seems so real!if thay dnt have a season 4 that would really suck.I hope its not the end of a really promising future!
