Last May, fans of The CW’s sitcom, The Game, were upset to learn that the sitcom had been cancelled after three seasons on the air. Though there was some resolution in the last episode, it was hardly satisfying enough for devoted viewers. The web has recently been abuzz with news that the show is coming back but can you believe it?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
Even before the show was cancelled by the CW, there was talk about the possibility of Black Entertainment Television (BET) picking up the show for a fourth year. The cable-channel has been playing the sitcom repeats and the show fits in with their other programming.
In July, Mowry told TV Guide, “[BET chairman and CEO] Debra Lee is trying everything and anything to make this happen. The Game gets higher ratings than BET’s original programming, and we’ve heard there would be a huge marketing campaign. So I personally believe the show would be taken to another level.”

Unfortunately, there’s been little word of any real progress since then. Last week, rumors started circulating that a deal had been struck between BET and the show’s studio, CBS Television. Unfortunately, they turned out to be false.
Last night, Mowry put the rumors to rest. Via her Twitter account, she wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.” A deal may still happen but, for the moment, there isn’t one.
When or if a new deal is made, it remains to be seen how it would work. The contracts for the cast and creatives have lapsed so new ones would have to be negotiated. Because BET has less money to spend, they’d likely have to take pay cuts.
On top of that, some of those involved with the show have also moved on to other projects and may not be available. Hall is working on CBS’ new sitcom Accidentally on Purpose, Mowry has several projects in the works, and Akil is part of ABC’s new Cougar Town comedy with Courteney Cox Arquette.

My daughter, son and I all watch and LOVE this show. It is humurous, family oriented, and REAL. Very few writers and actors can collaborate and produce a well-liked show that elates your audience-US. As a very last resort we watch these ridiculous reality shows. Please someone understand that we are dumming down our society with these reality shows.
Attention: Writers, Actors, Producers, Stock holders, Investors, Anyone etc.
We need true talent! Please renegotiate and sign “The Game.”

The Game is as good as Girlfriends was, so besides the fact that budget problems may have played a role in cancelling, the truth is, it was a damn good show. It reached alot of people going through similar experiences and the humor included made it the show it is. Which is GREAT~! So if not BET, I hope someone decides to let it back on the air or I’m going to go around petitioning to stop watching television all together and stick to movies and the internet! PEACE
It never fails. When these new networks are started they use black shows to get off the ground, and once they get up and running they change the programming and take the black shows off the air. It happened on FOX, UPN, and it is the same with CW. I wish they would reward the people who watched in the beginning and helped them get established by not taking off the shows that had them watch their station to begin with.

This show was soooo good! They should really try to make a fourth year..things that happen on the show really do happen in real life, and its funny…the thing is life is messy.
everytime its a black show on cw its always getting cut off. Now you tell me whats wrong with that picture. That show is the best show on that channel or should i say was! I am so mad cause its a crazy thing first the wayne bros and my wife and kids now the game!

I really enjoyed watching a comedy that was real and dramatic. I hope something can be done to salvage the program.

I loved The Game. I so looked forward to Friday nights to get my Tash Mack on. I was always entertained, and infuriated each and every week. I surely do hope someone picks this wonderful cast up for yet another season. BRAVO.
I am soooo tired of these networks cancelling our shows. The CW is doing the same thing they did with Girlfriends, they changed the days and times so much that I couldn’t find the show, and when I did find it and wait until it came on they aired a “special viewing” of 90210 or some other bull crap white girl show. My girls and I watched faitfully, so I know the rating were good
this was a great show i hope it picks up and finish where it left off
