As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.

loved it!!! forget abc…maybe starz could pick it up and give the show a better, more adult platform where the writers and producers could showcase more graphic content! would be incredible!!
I am in the same situation as 99% of the people on here, I had no idea this show was ever on, never heard of it and I stumbled upon it on Netflix, I watched it throughout the night. It is a really good show and ABC didn’t give it the proper chance. Nobody on here knew of it. I remember when Roswell came out and the networks weren’t given it the proper chance, other writers took over and it got all screwed up. Didn’t see this until it was on netflix. Actually never heard of it until I went on netflix. I loved it. There should be a season two. It was probably barely seen by people because there was barely any commercials or anything supporting this excellent show
For someone who truly disliked the twilight/true blood stories (especially their screaming and/or giggling fans), The Gates was the one Vampire/Lycan story I have been truly impressed by since “Let The Right One In”.
What a shame to see it’s been cancelled.
I agree with everyone else! I am upset that I found this on netflix only to discover after I had watched up episode 9 , and wondering when it is going to come out again, to find it has been cancelled! I am getting so frustrated with Tv and the stupid reality shows that suck! (Not all , but most) They are cheap to make therefore you spend more money on advertising, and then people watch it because they do not know about the good shows that are never advertised! The Gates was awesome………can’t believe ABC…..that’s why i stick with HBO and Showtime……Showtime…..pick up The Gates give True Blood a run for it’s money! ABC this is as bad as someone not believing in Star Wars….remember that mistake….LOL. if you don’t know the history of things you are destined to repeat them! FFT.
Just caught the show this past weekend on Netflix. Too bad after season 1 it went away. Very good show, but I guess it just was not properly promoted. Seems that networks are in a bind for money and I guess a reality show is inexpensive, so that’s what we get generally speaking on the major networks. I hope one day, they get committed to using imagination and put more real entertainment, like the Gates out there.

i discovered The Gates on netflix too. loved it , it wasnt just vampires and werewolves – not gona ruin it if you havent see it. =) unfortunatly it got cancelled, now ive got questions and no answers.
I think cancelling the show was a bad decision.I can bet my last penny anyone who ever watched it loved it,i know i did.Please consider all those fans you let down

I agree with the others! Bring it back!! Maybe try a different network, or more advertising? I just saw it on Netflix and fell in love there’s so much more I would like to set go on! I love the whole feel of cops dealing with supernalturals remindsme allot like Charmed!, Come on if TEEN WOLF get a sec ond season this show could go far more beyond!
I began watching The GateS, Sunday, January 22, 2012 on Netflix, intially to pass the time until Once Upon Time came on (shows on ABC @ 8pm). I became so engrossed in the episodes that the next thing I knew it was 11pm!! In order to catch up, I began watching the episodes before bed and again in the morning as I get ready for work. I love The Gates!!! So into shows movies involving vamps, werewolves, witches, ect.
Didn’t know about it until I watched it on Netflix yesterday watched the whole first season in one day. Now I see it won’t be a second season…boo. Promoting it better would have worked I think because I didn’t even know about the show, and I watch alot of t.v (record on dvr). With the whole twilight series and true blood going on those same fans will love The Gates. Bring it back!!!!!!!
