TV show description:
A late-night talk show hosted by stand-up comedian Joan Rivers. Rivers had been the permanent guest host on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson when she was wooed into doing her own series for FOX in October 2006.
The program features Rivers performing her trademark caustic humor in an opening monologue, followed by musical performances and interviews with TV and movie personalities.
Rivers left the show in 1987 and it was renamed simply The Late Show for the remainder of its three year run. The hosting duties were taken over by Arsenio Hall (prior to launching his own show), Ross Shafer, Richard Belzer, Suzanne Somers, and Robert Townsend. The format didn’t change much with the new hosts but some later episodes included on-air reunions of the casts of classic TV shows.
