TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

I love this show! I hope you keep it. It is so entertaining and funny! Please keep it.
My family loves this show! It is so much fun, different from most others, with a terrific cast.
Please keep this show! It’s fresh and new, unlike anything else on TV. Great cast, writing and directing. There are a lot more stories to be told and I want to hear them please!
My daughter’s and I absolutely love the show. Please keep them going. Love all the characters !! Please don’ t cancel the show.
Keep LIBRARIANS…A FAVORITE
RENEW ;KEEP; RETAIN
Love this show!
Renew!!! The cohesion of the story over ten episodes was superb!
Definitely keep. One season is not enough time for the characters to grow into their roles. They’re just getting started. I enjoyed the show, but it does need to grow. I didn’t find it as riveting as I do the movies. I’ve watched the movies over and over and I never tire of them. I think the TV show needs to be modeled a bit more after the movies and we need more of Noah Wiley.
Please Renew! I loved the movies and this series has the capacity to explore the LIBRARY more, really hope it gets renewed so we can see more of all the Librarians. But make the season more than 10 episodes long, 10 episodes is much too short 🙁
I really liked this show, please renew it! My husband, who didn’t watch this genre, even liked it!
Please keep! Love the show!
I was a devoted follower of Leverage. Sadly it was canceled. Now another Dean Devlin genius is being yanked away. There will be nothing left to watch if you keep getting rid of shows like the Librarians.
Keep it and give us full seasons!
Please KEEP!!
Librarians should STAY! renew it. It is a great show my whole family loves. We are huge fans of Kane, Wyle, and Larroquette.
