TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep the show. The Librarians franchise has been one of my favorites since the first “The Librarian” came out. The characters need to be developed more and they writers will have to figure out how to focus on the three new librarians while still keeping Flynn and Eve around. The new librarians are golden. The finale felt kind of forced but I can’t wait to see more.
Keep it. It is really fun…and a little weird.
Keep. Keep. Love it. Especially since you people cancelled Perception!!!
Keep the Librarians!!! It’s a terrific cast and while the stories are a bit hokey, it’s fun to watch. Christian Kane is delish!
Please renew, tv is really lacking in good shows now and This is a great one and there should be more episodes in season 2.
This show is great. It is appropriate for all ages. I truly hope it will not be cancelled. GREAT SHOW AND GREAT ACTORS.
Please keep it. My family loves it!!!!
Please keep! Intelligent, creative, quality family programs are seriously needed. The cast is brilliant, writing is superb, and the sets and special effects are a treat to the eye. We have fallen in love with the show and hope that TNT does not the mistake of canceling.
PLEASE KEEP!! It is the show my granddaughter and I watch every week. She LOVES the history and keeps pitching theories about the direction the show will go. An Amazing family experience for us…all three generations. So educational, too.
Please renew – it’s wonderful!
Keep it
Keep it. I enjoy it.
Please keep, I watch every Sunday and dvr so can re watch later in week
Please renew the librarians. It’s a show that my whole family enjoys and can watch together. In my opinion, it’s the best new show of the year. My girls enjoy it as well and we enjoy watching it together. I’ve suggested it to people to watch and ebpvery person that has watched has loved it as much as we do. It’s refreshing not to have to cover the kids eyes during a TV show!
Love it! Renew!
