TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

They need to make a second season, if they cancel the Librarians I will never watch Turner again (TBS / TNT) they have had to many strikes towards them

Please keep this show! Renew it! I loved it so much I went and watched the 3 movies that the show is based on! Which are so fantastic, I can’t believe I’ve missed them before. Good job advertising this shows premiere on other stations. It brought me to you!

Please renew The Librarians. The show is excellent and the chemistry between the characters is awesome! I looked forward to every episode and watched several more than once.

Keep it, both my husband & I like it, & we try to watch it AND DVR it for later viewing. *And really…whining about the 2nd week ratings dropping? It can take 3-4 shows to really get the ball rolling, & it’s just gotten better & better (the fables, haunted house, & city of light were our top 3 favs). Keep keep keep! Please don’t cancel. It’s clever and fun like nothing else on TV right now. In just a handful of episodes we’ve seen more character growth than whole seasons on other shows.

Please keep it! I’m very upset by the cancellation of such well written, clever shows as Perception and Warehouse 13, etc. I wish some of these shows would be given the chance to stick around long enough to properly develop – shows need time to age, glut character development to occur and storylines to build, but most shows today are never given that chance. Please give the Librarians the chance to grow into the strong show that I know it will become. Please RENEW The Librarians!!! I find it enjoyable, mentally engaging, and exciting. It has had a real potential to become a SciFi cult classic like Star Trek, Warehouse 13, Eureka, Chuck, & Psych. Please approve more episodes. 10 episodes is too little time for storyline and character development for a SciFi Fantasy genre.
