TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Keep! Keep! Keep! I LOVE this show!
This show is awesome and i really wish season 2 will come season 1 was just too short really great shows out there anymore but this series needs to continue
Keep the Librarians!!! It’s the only show I tune in for every week! Love it! Please keep it on!!!
Please keep it. The show fills the void created with the loss of Leverage and Warehouse 13.
I love this show. It took a few episodes for the new librarians to grow on me. They’re flawed, smart, and funny in their own ways. Since the loss of Warehouse 13, if it wasn’t for the librarians, I wouldn’t be watching TNT.
I love the show. I made it a point to DVR it if I couldn’t watch it when it was on. I would be very upset if it isn’t renewed. Please listen to your viewers.
Please contiuen with the librarian i was in love with that show since day 1 and because i watched all the movie series also when i heard they made a tv show base on the movie i was so happy that i couldnt believe so PLEASE DONT CANCEL THE LIBRARIAN PLEASE

Please keep this! I am such a nerd and love this show!
i watch this from Australia please don’t cancel it. The movies were epic and the series is also epic.
please renew it! There is so much potential. And like some said earlier: it’s good, light-hearted fun and we need more of that in this cold, dark world.
Definitely KEEP!!!!! The show is amazing. Anxiously awaiting a second season.
