TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

For awhile, to myself and others, TNT was just another channel on the TV. But I can assure you that The Librarians will be this programs redemption. Thank you for providing the world with a place to escape, yet to not go anywhere. To provide us with a world of magic intertwined into reality. An alternate reality that fills our homes every sunday. For that, we thank you.

Keep this show, its a lot of fun to watch. It can be a little silly at times and Baird needs something to use that’s more effective then her gun, but overall its great!
More episodes of The Librarians should be ordered. Interesting story lines a little esoteric but a different type of TV show. Give another season and see if they improve.

Keep it! I’ve loved the movies for years and the show is great too! I really love the fact that it’s a show I can watch with my almost 5 year old, without worrying about improper content. She lives the show too!

Please keep the show going. My girls and I love watching the show every week and when my mom visits she watches with us too. We wait all eeek for ot to come on and wish the show wasn’t already over for the season. Keep Librarian’s on TNT for many seasons to come please!!!!!!
