TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Should definetly keep the show. My family and I enjoy it.
Why cancel something as great as the librarians? One of the only shows of late I am hanging for and can sit down and watch, becoming immensed in the story. The cast is on a whole other level each brings their own uniqueness to the show!!So don’t cancel.
kEEP
Please keep!! I truly look forward to this show every sunday
Keep the show. I miss Franklin and Bash and Leverage. Better then many shows on big 3.
Please Keep this show…..I’m so tired of great shows getting cancelled after 1 short season. It’s not enough time. Please do not cancel
can’t cancel..loved the movies, adore the show…it is a wonderful escape from reality. So well cast, and leaves me smiling
Keep, it’s fun.
I have watched the movies over and over again wishing for another movie. The shows have been great and love the team and good clean fun with alot of imagination. Keep the show!
Please keep it but don’t separate the cast into separate episodes, ,keep them together.
Won’t mind seeing a little bit more of Bob Newhart.
Thanks
Good series that can only improve with opportunity for more character development and less frenetic pacing. John L. and Christian K. are solid in their roles and the “Librarians” premise is deserving of a second season.
I hope the adventure is never end.
Keep!! Love the Librarians!! Love how different the show is, it’s super funny & all the characters are awesome!!!!
Keep The Librarians!!! It is a good family show that I can watch with my kids. We all love it. Please keep this show on the air.
Yes yes yes! A million times yes! My very favorite show 🙂
