TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

KEEP KEEP KEEP! I LOVE “The Librarians!” It is such a wonderful show, and very well-cast (you can’t get better than Christian Kane. I mean, come on!) The networks need to remember that not all people (myself included…I watched the show at my friend’s house) have cable, and a good deal watch it on the internet. Never mind ratings…it’s the quality of the show that counts in my opinion, and this is high quality. 🙂
My husband and I loved the original, and are thrilled with the new show. Keep it on please.. So much TV is junk anymore, or you get sex in every scene.. This show is entertaining, and the whole family can safely watch it!
Please keep the show, I love the cast and plots. The script writing a is brill’ and just when you get used to the characters every one changes I.e. ‘ Apple of Discord’ or ‘Fables of Doom’

Please do not cancel The Librarians , this a truly enjoyable family show. It is also a personal need in our family. My daughter is autistic and is unable retain anything from a book or written on paper, but she has always been able retain whatever she watches on tv or a computer screen. She truely enjoys your show and very excitedly asks me so many questions concerning the stories on your show, LEARNING questions that she will be able to remember thanks to your show. Keep the Librarians please! It’s so much fun! The writing is really imaginative and the characters have so much room to grow and interact – just don’t make it heavy and formulaic pretty please. Also, I want to see an episode where Baird goes all girly and maybe even cries.
I am very pleased with this new show. Supernatural, magic, Science, the perfect team with charisma and as each episode airs you can see more and more of different ways to keep this on a long time. And it has no limitations for ways to evolve, expand, cameos from Leverage and other character’s have worked with. Limitless! !
