CBS hasn’t cancelled The McCarthys but fans aren’t going to be able to find any new episodes on the schedule.
The McCarthys revolves around sports-crazed family from Boston. Athletically-challenged and gay son Ronny (Tyler Ritter) plans to finally move away to start his own life. Those plans are thrown into turmoil when his basketball coach dad (Jack McGee) offers him a job as assistant coach — much to the dismay of Ronny’s siblings. The sitcom also stars Laurie Metcalf, Jimmy Dunn, Joey McIntyre, and Kelen Coleman.
The sitcom debuted in late October and, despite mediocre ratings, the network has kept The McCarthys on the air. It’s the lowest-rated scripted series on the network in total viewership and also has the lowest demo rating of any CBS sitcom this season — including The Millers which was dropped mid-way through its second season.
The network didn’t give the show a full season but did order two additional installments, bringing the first season’s tally to 15 episodes. It remains to be seen if we will actually see all of them however.
CBS has aired 11 of the 15 episodes so far. They had been set to air two more installments, on February 5th and 12th. Now, the network has pulled them and plans to air reruns of The Big Bang Theory instead.
The following week, CBS will fill the 9:30pm timeslot with part of the Two and a Half Men series finale and after that Mom will shift there — to make room for the debut of the new version of The Odd Couple at 8:30pm.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the remaining four episodes of The McCarthys. Also, based on the ratings, it looks very unlikely that the series will be renewed for a second season.
What do you think? Do you like The McCarthys TV show on CBS? Would you watch the four remaining episodes? If you ran the network would you renew the sitcom for a second season?
Please bring back the McCarthys. Fresh and funny. The show was well casted. Give it another shot.
I loved this show and MISS it! Please bring it back, it is one of the only shows that made me laugh out loud!!!
i want the McCarthy’s back on tv they were so funny
We agree with every single word written by Joan, yesterday. Renew The McCarthys, blow away Two Broke Girls, and apologize for the 2 1/2 Men mess. While you’re at it, buy “Shaun Saves the World”, which was prematurely dropped by the numbskulls at an
other network.
I absolutely LOVE this show! Please don’t cancel. It is a true to live family. These issues that come up are what is really happening in our families today. The best part is that it isn’t filthy rotten dirty like some no actually most shows on TV today. It is so funny and I sit and laugh for the entire show.
Finally a show that everyone can enjoy. No drugs, no sex, no alcohol abuse. And, CBS may end it. Really? You put garbage like Two and a Half Men on for 12 years, and you leave Two Broke Girls who are really just two broke ******, and you pull a show that families can relate to and enjoy. I love Big Bang Theory, but to put reruns on instead of a new show makes no sense. Why don’t you try it for the other two episodes and see what happens. Now that you ran the dumbest finale ever with Two… Read more »
CBS finally has a sitcom worthy of being on the air in a long time. Don’t take it away, it’s funny and clever. I love it!
Why is CBS pulling one of the funniest shows on TV? We were so looking forward to a show the whole family can watch. What a dumb move. Guess we just turn the channel then.
Absolutely we would watch this show. Laugh out loud funny! Why do all the really funny shows get cancelled and replaced with shows that can’t even be watched by most family members because they are so gross? Please bring this show back!!!
I am in agreement with everyone else who has commented here; Bring it back! I haven’t laughed so much during a sit-com in a long time. But it seems to be the way of the world now, if it’s not an instant, raving success bringing in billions of dollars from the get-go, the networks dump it. As Marc pointed out, sometimes it takes a series to gain traction and momentum. I do hope they either bring this show back, or another network picks it up.
Most sitcoms are all situation-no comedy. My whole family loved this show and we can’t believe they pulled it. You suck, CBS.
Our family has been looking for this and CBS never let fans know. I never write on these comment boards, but really am so disappointed. This is the best comedy show in a long time. It is laugh out loud funny and I hate reruns of anything. They need to give it a chance. I don’t watch many sitcoms, but wouldn’t miss one of these. The characters are hilarious.
Disappointed:-(
I would like you to bring back the McCarthy’s and finish off the season at least. Two and a half men has sucked ever sense Charlie Sheen left and you already canceled the guaranteed a laugh The Miller’s, so why not let us get some smiles with the McCarthy’s? Your killing all the great sitcoms and leaving some REALLY NOT FUNNY ONE for us to suffer through, or like me and many other vie wers, change the channel!
This is the same network that cancelled Gilligan’s Island. The ratings for Cheers and Seinfeld were in the toilet during their first year run, but looked what happened to these iconic classics. This show (The McCarthy’s) is hilarious, different and somewhat wholesome and very funny. The problem is they rely on the 18-49 crowd for ratings…..it’s all about advertising.
Please bring back this was a great show and they were just starting to get comfortable with their characters.
