Oprah Winfrey’s favorite interior designer, Nate Berkus, will soon be available for other projects. His daytime talk series, The Nate Berkus Show, has been cancelled after two seasons on the air.
The decorating series — often referred to as The Nate Show — debuted September 13, 2010 in syndication. Despite having a loyal following, the Berkus show didn’t catch on with a big enough audience. It’s been averaging about 1.4 million viewers this season. New episodes will continue to be produced and air until the end of this season but there won’t be a third.
In a join statement, Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Studios said, “After careful consideration, we have decided that The Nate Berkus Show will not return for a third season in the fall… We are grateful for the hard work and heart that Nate, [executive producer] Corin Nelson and their entire team have poured into the show, and we’re very proud of what they’ve delivered.”
Berkus said, “I’m incredibly proud of my hard working and talented staff, and proud of the show we were able to produce every day.”
The cancellation doesn’t come as a big surprise, especially given the ratings and the show’s expense. The peacock network initially signed a three year deal with Sony for the Berkus Show but recently made deals for new daytime talk shows from Steve Harvey and Jeff Probst. Given the limited number of daytime time slots, that move didn’t seem to leave any room for The Nate Berkus Show.
In some markets, Berkus filled the timeslot left vacant by The Bonnie Hunt Show, a program that was also dropped after two seasons in 2010.
What do you think? Will you miss Nate Berkus’ program? Should it continue on Winfrey’s OWN network?

I loveeeee Nat. I even have my husband watching it. It sucks that it will no longer be on. I wish another network would pick up the show!
I cried when I heard the news, I have never wrote in about a favorite show being cancelled before, but am upset about this one. Just because this an honest talented show about life and design it is a no go, because the general population would rather watch meaningless shows where no one cares about the concerns of others. That show was why my very conservative daughter who watches every penny finally got dvr because she got tired of hearing me say oh you should of seen Nate today. She loves him almost as much as I do. Will Hgtv… Read more »
Move it to HGTV or Bravo or TLC, or anything except OWN – which sucks, and I don’t subscribe to OWN on my cable TV plan. I have watched it multiple times at my sister’s house and The Rosie O’Donnell talk show was the only thing I liked on there. I am sick to death of Oprah preaching her “wisdom” to the viewers. Nate’s show averaged 1.4 million viewers? How do they actually know the numbers of all of who dvr or vcr record the show daily?? I have both of those ways to record, as well as a DVD… Read more »
Oprah please pick up nates show. Your network needs a boost. There is so much silliness on the air Nate is refreshing , informative, practical. Love it. I watch the show and take notes. Get rid of the chew that show is really silly and the revolution. Please please please.
“It’s been averaging about 1.4 million viewers this season” How many viewers do you need to keep a show? He had one of the best Daytime TV shows that I have seen in a long time! I hope someone picks his show up. Come on HGTV!!
Quality vs. quantity of viewers isn’t necessarily a bad thing! We do watch and buy goods and services due to what we see on the show ESPECIALLY his blogger features…………..cut out the food and fashion, and focus on decorating on the cheap like SO many of the excellent blogers show us.
I am very sad to see the Nate show has been cancelled. It was the only true design show on tv! I am hoping OWN will pick it up. Or HGTV.
I really don’t know if “The Nate Berkus Show” is going to get picked up by OWN or HGTV or not since I still haven’t heard a word from them. We may have to find out until his final episode in May to see what is next for Nate Berkus. I really wished that they cancelled “Anderson” and “The Jeremy Kyle Show” instead of “The Nate Berkus Show” since Anderson Cooper should stick with CNN and I bet most of the entire United States do not know who Jeremy Kyle is that he should go back to the United Kingdom.… Read more »
I am absolutely stunned that the show is to be cancelled. Is someone out of their mind for doing this????
He has such charisma and talent. If only his sunny disposition could be bottled!!!
I am very disappointed that the Nate Berkus Show is cancelled! He is extremely talented and is so caring about others. I hope that he will be scooped up by cable network .
Can’t believe that the Nate Show is being cancelled. It’s the only show I watch in the morning! Why not move it to HGTV channel. And Melissa is right; the marketing has to be broader. He has so much on the show besides design (although that is the best part).
Please keep it!!!!!
Why not move it to BRAVO or HGTV ???????????? Pleassssssssssssssssse <3
I love Nate’s show and start my am everyday with Nate……… What a mistake, He brings out the passion for design, even thru a pillow or throw . I got up Mon., did a few things and saw it was 9am…….stopped what I was doing and sat down and almost cried…….. I love Nate, he is a kind, giving and a blessing to be around. Miss is not the word SAD would be more appropriate…..At least do reruns at 9. Nate, I am so sorry and hope they bring yo back…….. with love, mpj
I WILL MISS THE NATE SHOW– WATCH IT OR TAPE MOST EVERYDAY.. ITS DESIGN .. AND SO MUCH MORE– ITS REALLY DESIGN FOR YOUR WHOLE LIFE.. FEEL Mybe it was mismarketed.. should have been design for your whole life– why limit your ratings/ viewers to just home design.. feel over time made his market too specific.. and like what nbc also did to bonnie hunt before nate– she too lasted 2 yrs–only she was actually # 1 in some markets– nate needs to take shoe to own, or hgtv, bravle we, lifetime– somewhere as it really is a feel good… Read more »
Nate has a great show! Wish someone would pick it up!
I thought it was weird that the Nate Show seemed to be mostly reruns lately, then found out it’s being cancelled, so that must be why. I don’t have cable or satellite, so I’m living in a design desert and the Nate Show has helped fill the void. I would have preferred to have the show focus more on design: DIY, answering audience and viewer questions, House Proud (needed to slow down the videos–hard to take it all in), rather than so much fashion, food and entertaining. I tape the show every day at 9 a.m., and will really miss… Read more »
