A medical drama, The Night Shift wasn’t exactly a hit in the ratings when NBC aired the first season last summer. They renewed it for a second season and decided to give it a much better timeslot — airing behind their biggest series, The Voice. Will the ratings rise high enough to justify a third season or will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned!
The Night Shift revolves around the quirky but devoted staffmembers of San Antonio Memorial Hospital who work from dusk til dawn. The cast of the medical drama includes Eoin Macken, Freddy Rodriguez, Jill Flint, Ken Leung, Robert Bailey Jr., Brendan Fehr, Jeananne Goossen, and J.R. Lemon.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

For comparisons: The first season of The Night Shift (which aired during the summer months) averaged a 1.4 rating in the demo and 6.59 million viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Night Shift TV show? Would you like to see it cancelled or renewed for a third season?
This show is awful. It portrays horrible acting! Enough of trying to be like Greys Anatomy which ws and still a home run.
Please please don’t cancel Night Shift it is the best show. I watch it every week with my dad we look forward to Monday nights for this show. Please bring it back for a third season.
I love the night shift. My daughter and I watch it every Monday. Can’t wait for it to be put on dvd so I can get it. I hope the continue the seasons.
Night Shift is great!! I vote to keep it going
I think this show deserves a chance. The style of filming is well-done (very similar to NBC’s ER) which I loved. For those of us who are fans of medical dramas, this could be a refreshing contrast to Grey”s which I also love. I do however think it was a bad idea to have TC’s character bear a very strong physical resemblance to Grey’s “McDreamy”. I don’t know if this was intentional but in any case his character (appearance and development) needs changing. The storylines involving his character are a bit too over-the -top. Other n that, good cast and… Read more »
I love this show. It has suspense and humor which s amazing.
This show is the BEST!! I love how it’s all serious and dramatic when they’re treating a patient, but it also has a fun and quirky side to it, like the characters playing pranks on each other and videoing it. Out of all the shows I watch (which is too many to count) this is one of my favorite and I would be DEVASTATED to see it leave TV.
I love this show it’s so good and it has lots of suspense, which is really good.
Please , Please don’t cancel this show it’s the best show on TV, just bad timing running during the NCAA BB Finals. I know alot of people who watch this show.
Love this show! Please, please do not cancel. Renew for third season!
This is such an impressive show. Please do not cancel it.
I absolutely love this show–the characters, the writing, the storylines…I adore everything about it. Drew is an amazingly complex character and I’m surprised the LGBTQ community hasn’t talked about him more. I will be completely devastated if they don’t renew it for a third season!
I like this show and hope they renew it for a third season. Just with the seasons were longer so you got to know the characters better.
I enjoy this show the drama and the humor It’s agreat show love it thank you for bringing it back for another season this show doesn’t have to be politically correct it’s a tv show the reality and imagination is great
I didn’t care for it last season but my husband likes it so I sit thru it. This year it’s even worse. The supposed star, yes, the “vet” is just too over the top. Hopefully they don’t let real doctors act like that. And the first show seemed like a soap opera. Little clips of this person and that person and the stories all over the place. I don’t care if they do that it off the air. None of these characters are particularly likeable.
my thoughts excatly
I’ve never been a big fan of medical dramas, but I tried this one out last season and found it amusing in the idea that you have a surgeon who is back from the war where he learned to do whatever it took to save lives in the combat field, but finds at the corporate medical world lives often are only worth saving if it’s cost effective. So he butts heads with the system over and over. He was usually tolerated to a degree because he’s extremely skilled. Add to that little love stories here and there and you basically… Read more »
