The Old Man will not have a third season. FX has cancelled the drama series after two seasons on the cable network. Season two premiered in September.
Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman, Alia Shawkat, and Gbenga Akinnagbe star in The Old Man series, inspired by Thomas Perry’s novel. The story follows former CIA operative Dan Chase (Bridges), who abandoned the agency decades ago and has been living off the grid ever since.
According to Deadline, the seven-episode second season did not perform as well ratings-wise as season one.
The first season of The Old Man was released in 2022 and was a success for the network. However, the industry strikes of 2023 caused a delay in production for season two, and that was likely a factor in the series’ ratings decline.
What do you think? Are you a fan of this FX series? Were you hoping for a third season of this drama?

We enjoyed the series’ seasons one and two and immediately searched for a third season. We are very disappointed that there will not be another season.
I have also been waiting for the third season of The Old Man and as many have stated in their posts it is extremely disappointing that it has been canceled. I am sure that the way this show’s 2nd season was delayed in airing has a lot to do with why it rated poorly. So many loyal fans have been waiting for S3. (I personally thought S3’s delay was due to the WGA strike!) But No, we find out that it is actually just a piss poor decision by FX executives. So, thanks FX for ‘F’ing this up and disappointing… Read more »
We really liked it and are disappointed that it was not renewed
I enjoyed it very much!
FINALLY a woman is in charge of a globally significant resource and they cancel the show. The problem is they are stuck on “kidnappings.” Season 1 Angela Adams is kidnapped and it’s all about getting her back. Season 2 Dan Chase is kidnapped and it’s all about getting him free. And at the end of Season 2, Harold Harper is kidnapped. What do we think Season 3 would have been about?
ep.1 was good but ep.2 was poor due to the absurdity of the plot. granted this is fiction but even fiction must have some make believe elements to make the story credibile which ep.2 lacks. especially the part the spies fought in Afghanistan for “rare earth”. the script writers seem to be oblivious to the fact that yes Afghanistan has rare earth but due to poor infrastructures and constant tribal wars, it has been impossible to extract let alone ship out. and then even if they shipped out the minerals, they must ship to China because China controls 80% of… Read more »
Great acting, from great actors, excellent story. An oasis in the abyss, now gone.
Why on earth do they continue to pump out unwatchable series and then cancel something like this.
This is the second time a show I was hooked on on FX (Taboo was other) has been canceled. The ending of season 2 left some interesting questions, not to mention the cinematography was fantastic. I will not watch another show on FX ever again, they’ll just disappoint
We are not happy at all. I was waiting to see season 3. SUCKS
I waited until I could binge watch each season. I was hooked. One of the greatest thrillers that I have watched in some time. Now you tell me that it’s cancelled. Explitive, Explitive!
Big fan. Was nicely set up for Season 3. Disappointed
someday these morons will figure out that their practice of waiting 1 year to put up a second season dooms most any show.
I would greatly appreciate the return of The Old Man
Bring it back
Unbelievable loved it you have to bring it back.
