And we have a winner — or a loser, depending on how you look at it. NBC has announced that they have cancelled The Playboy Club after just three episodes due to low ratings.
The new TV series revolves around patrons and staff of the Playboy Club in Chicago during the 1960s. The cast includes Amber Heard, David Krumholtz, Eddie Cibrian, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Laura Benanti, Leah Renee Cudmore, Naturi Naughton, and Wes Ramsey.
The show debuted on September 19th to a very disappointing 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.02 million viewers. It was a distant third in the timeslot. The following week, Playboy Club dropped 19%, to a 1.3 and 3.97 million.
Per the fast affiliates, last night’s episode dropped further still to a 1.2 rating and just 3.39 million.
The Playboy Club and NBC have been hit with sharp criticism from the PTC but ultimately it’s the ratings that did this series in. NBC has announced that they are cancelling Playboy Club effective immediately. They’ll fill the timeslot with repeats of Prime Suspect, the peacock network’s under-performing Thursday night drama. On October 31st, NBC will premiere Rock Center with Brian Williams in the Monday night timeslot.
It’s believed that seven episodes of Playboy Club have been produced but it’s unclear if the production team will be allowed to finish the 13 episode order or when/if NBC will release any of them.

What do you think? Are you sorry that Playboy Club has been cancelled? Why do you think it failed to attract a bigger audience?

I really enjoyed it & also wish they would consider finishing the season! I am a 60 year old who refuses to dress or act my age and have been told I look in my late 40’s early 50’s! I went to The Playboy Club in Chicago around the mid 70’s. Brought back many memories…. I think the plot was great, not to mention the main “hunk”…People can be sexy with clothes on!! I hate it when they just cancel shows and just leave you hanging!
Oh yeah and one more thing….
Try airing it on a different night and give it a chance, its a great show and NBC has pissed me off again by ending a good show! I will boycott the network! Im sick of this crap!
Exactly ! Bring the show back ! Look..this is what I want to know..
Who’s bright idea was it to put a show like “The Playboy Club” against (of all things) Monday Night Football ???? Say it with me now…
DUHHHH !!
Put the show back on, and change the day. The time is fine..it’s the DAY that killed it !
bummer. I was thinking about the show on my ride home from work tonight. I’d like to see the unaired episodes.
The good news is that the lame Playboy Club is gone. The bad news is that it is replaced by a news program.
Typical!! I think “The Playboy Club” is far better than “Pan Am” – which should also be cancelled, since it, too, shows women being sexualized and exploited (which I say with immense sarcasm)! I liked it, but now – what a waste of time – I should have known that NBC wouldn’t recognize a good show if it kicked them in the…! I like “Prime Suspect”, but that is likely going to be cancelled, so, I will watch the last thirteen episodes of “Chuck”, when it airs, and then I will have no need for anything NBC-related! I also agree… Read more »
Sad for its fans, but I think Prime Suspect is the best new show this season, so I’m hoping sticking PS repeats in the time slot will help it find a bigger audience.
i hope that maybe they’ll put the un-aired episodes on demand so that i can see where the rest of the series was going.
i actually liked the show!
boo to nbc
And the winner is………….
90% of all tv shows never get a chance to get their wings. Networks just throw’em out the nest and watch’em fall.
I’m not saying this is bad, it’s nature. nature is neither cruel or kind it just is. Only in Nature it’s about life and death whereas in TV land its all about the checkbook.
Playboy Club has crashed and burned and it shant be lamented.
I just hope the Peacock channel gives flight to Prime Suspect or Whitney.
YIKES! Everybody wants to be Mad Men.

Let’s see, a show based on a major men’s mag shows no femalee nudity and one of its leads announced he is gay. No surprise it was canceled.
This is so bullsh-t! If this is really official, then hopefully air the remaining episodes and get the word out to possibly do a series finale to end the series..there are still fans out there like myself who will wonder what happened?

Not at all surprised. The writing was awful.
My next three picks for cancellation:
Charlies Angels, Pan Am, and Terra Nova.
