After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
WHY, Why Why, PLease bring it back, we loved this show! It really made our week to look forward to something fun. I loved the charactors, please,Fox, reconsider this decision???
I can’t believe they pull down this beautiful show. our family has been looking forward to the show every week. is there any way to bring it back? 🙁
I am very sorry that you have chosen to cancel this show. It was one of the funniest, wittiest shows I have seen in years and have looked forward to it each week.
I too love the show. I watched every episode, and grew fonder of the show each week.
How can ANY show follow American Idol and be expected to survive. American Idol is a joke now. The Wedding Bells, is a riot. I am so disappointed. Thanks, FOX.
It figures! Get rid of the quality programming in favor of garbage that we can’t even watch as a family…. I think we should all email fox directly and tell them we are tired of their crap…
This was the best show i’d seen put out there in a LONG time…
I am very disappointed. I cancelled my night out so that I can relax and enjoy “Wedding Bells” and what I find instead – they got cancelled and some movie is being aired! Just when I thought that finally someone created an interesting, witty, non-violent show! I am thinking of cancelling my TV cable and simply rent movies. There is almost nothing left on TV that more or less intelligent person can enjoy.
This was a great show. Fox you really didn’t give it much of a chance. Hopefully another network will see that it is a hit and pick it up!
What a shame to find that Wedding Bells has been pulled. Like so many comments above, I’m thoroughly disappointed in Fox’s choice to do this.
I really love The Wedding Bells!!! I can’t believe that they are cancelling this show!!! My husband and I look forward to watching it. The cast was great, the storys were great. Give it more time people!!!
My wife and I are in our sixties and we found this show to be one we could watch and enjoy. Great plots, good actors, believable premise – must have made too much sense for a hairbrained outfit like Fox. Back to reruns of Cops.
I really enjoy this show and was looking forward to seeing it tonight (April 13th) and was REALLY disappointed that it got pulled to air a really low-IQ movie instead. I liked these characters, and was really hoping to see more of both David and Ernesto. I hope Fox reconsiders and gives it another chance. I think it was pulled WAY too quickly. I’m disappointed in that decision.
I loved this show. Sarah Jones was my favorite and how could they pull it right when David and Annie got it together? White Chicks should be recalled!!
Why should we be surprised?
FOX declined to pick up Seinfeld in the early years because of poor ratings and that was obviously a great decision, too!
Wedding Bells is a really good show. One of the few Fox programs we watch. Too bad, that will be that much less we watch on Fox now.
Absolute rubbish! I tune in to a funny show… one that makes me smile before I go to bed. Wedding Bells reminded me of the true meaning behind my wedding (and it made me thankful that I had a small production). At the end of a hard week I was looking forward to something that would lighten my mood. And what did I see staring back at me? Ugly White Chicks……
