ABC has renewed some of their summer TV series but The Whispers isn’t one of them. The drama won’t be returning for a second season. To no surprise, the network has cancelled The Whispers after one season of 13 episodes.
On The Whispers, several Washington, DC children start talking about and playing with an imaginary friend. When their mysterious games turn dangerous, FBI child specialist Claire Bennigan (Lily Rabe) is called in to investigate. The rest of the cast includes Barry Sloane, Milo Ventimiglia, Derek Webster, Kristen Connolly, Kylie Rogers, and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.
The series debuted in June to a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.66 million viewers. That was a decent start for a summer series but the ratings took a big drop in week two and got much worse as the weeks progressed. The season ended up averaging a 0.83 demo rating with 3.43 million.
ABC let the options on the cast expire at the end of June. Despite that and the low ratings, network execs were supposedly still considering bringing the series back for a second season. Ventimiglia has since confirmed that that won’t be happening.
Sloane recently shared an image that shows an inside joke with the cast and crew.
Found a @TheWhispersABC tee shirt we had made for the crew. This was an ongoing joke. #TheWhispers @MiloVentimiglia pic.twitter.com/lP7T387tGE

Ventimiglia retweeted and joked that “it was always f***** aliens. The best times my brother. Miss em.”
Unfortunately, the fans of the summer series were left with a cliffhanger ending. Hopefully, at some point, the producers will share what might have been.
What do you think? Did you like The Whispers TV show on ABC? Would you have watched a second season? On another channel?
This is so annoying. Kept checking since the start of summer for the premiere. Yet crappy shows like mistresses continue..
This show was amazing too! ABC keeps taking away the good shows to put bad ones in. And then to leave us hanging like there was going to be another season was petty. Please bring this show back otherwise direct them to a new network. The show must go on!
looking forward whole year for the 2nd season and just learned that not showing .. Really diaponted I want to know what happens next next chapter with Clair and the kids ..
is there any way to reconsider?
I really enjoyed the show and was really excited about season two and how everything was going to be played out! I’m disappointed it wont be happening. Its “The Nine Lives of Chloe King” all over again. Great show that was cancelled because of low ratings. bummer.
I am very upset that this show will not be returning. this was really the only show I watched during the summer and dvr when at work. so pissed. u need to continue this show cuz I want to know what happens to clair and the kids that have got taken on the last episode of season 1. if u put it on Netflix I will sign up for Netflix again just to watch the whispers.
I personally really loves this show and is very upset and disappointed that they have canceled it
I loved this show and have been waiting a whole year to see what happens in season 2.You can’t just end a series with a cliffhanger. It’s a very interesting show, and I love the characters. Please bring back at least another season for those of us who have been waiting.
I loved it! Was so looking forward to season 2, so disappointed it’s not happening.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING!… I can’t believe it was cancelled I LOVED THIS SHOW!!!!!
Alright, ABC, I’m truly saddened by the cancelation of this show. Our whole family had been waiting for the second season to start. Infact, we had “Whispers Watch” Parties almost every week! The plot line and the acting were original and sublime. So I leave you with one question, “Why?” (Seriously, please do not say, “We did not make enough money.)
Exhausted by Excellent Shows Being Cancelled,
Sassy J
