Although the So You Think You Can Dance TV show has not yet been cancelled or renewed for a 14th season, Deadline reports things are looking up for the summer dance competition series on FOX.
So You Think You Can Dance season 13 judges included Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo, and Maddie Ziegler, with Cat Deeley hosting.

Last week during the TCA winter press tour, FOX chairman Gary Newman told the news outlet, “We are having lengthy conversations with the producers about it.” Since the 13th season, which featured kid contestants, did not go over well, Newman indicated a new season would “return to SYTYCD‘s roots and stick closer to its original premise.”
Here is more, from Deadline.
SYTYCD would anchor an all-unscripted summer 2017 lineup. “We have no plans for a scripted series to air next summer,” Newman told Deadline. Mystery drama Wayward Pines, which ran the last two summers, may return for a third installment but it won’t be ready for this coming summer, Newman said during the Fox TCA executive panel.
What do you think? Did you enjoy the 13th season of the So You Think You Can Dance TV show? Would you rather the show return to its earlier format in season 14?
Can’t wait for the show to begin. I am a great fan and would be terribly disappointed if I didn’t have this show to look forward to. I would like to see the return of the original judges. Didn’t care for the last panel very much.
Thank you for returning to the original format! I tried watching a couple of episodes with the younger contestants – but it just didn’t work for me. A very large part of the appeal of SYTYCD is the “storylines” of the dance (I still get chills every time I watch the “Addiction” routine!) and young children just can’t take on adult themes. Plus, to be honest, it was very painful watching the children’s torment when they didn’t make it to the next level of the competition. Write Season 13 off as a failed experiment and return to the original format… Read more »
This show is one of my all time favorites and have always looked forward to its seasonal return. This show represents so much of what is good about the “American Dream”.
SYTYCD is my favorite show. While I watched season 13, I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had in previous seasons. I love the original format and I did enjoy the street vs. stage season. I would really like to see the show go back to the way it was. I love watching the dancers grow with each episode. I will continue looking forward to every season with a genuine excitement and watch “my show” with awe at what people can do and accomplish.
Yes please go back to the original format!!!! Missing M. Murphy & M. Michaels 🙁 But hey I get it. Changes happen as time goes by -loved Twitch and Brian Friedman and Travis Wall as guest judges-please bring back rotating choreojudges! And please reconsider using Miss Abdul as a judge. I get that she is more than qualified, it’s just that she’s so difficult to watch on TV. As a fair viewer I really want to get behind her and champion for her but she doesn’t make it easy to take her seriously. I personally believe you’ll see a huge… Read more »
I have watched SYTYCD for 10 seasons with my daughters. We did not watch last season with the children dancing. We were very disappointed in the change and had no interest in watching the children and so disappointed that it was not going to continue as it had over the years. We were so looking forward to last season until we heard of the format change. I really hope SYTYCD returns in 2017 with the normal format. We will be watching again for certain if this is the case.
yuk….put it to rest!!!
It will never be what it once was!!
For the first time since this show began, I did not watch Season 13. I didn’t like the format of having children dancing, and did not like them dancing with adult partners. I did not like having Paula Abdul on the panel. I really miss Mary Murphy, I really liked having guest judges rotate through the panel (expert dancer judges!). I want the format to retunr to the pure joy of incredible dancers that created this show to begin with.
PLEASE return to the original format! It was my favorite show and I waited for it all year. The original format allows for age appropriate dance styles, and provided quality dancing and entertainment. Having worked with children for over 30 years, I feel the competition, pressure and rejection of the younger generation season is not healthy or constructive for children. Please Please bring back the original judge, choreographers and format with adult dancers – You will make many many of us happy again! Thank you.
I did not think I would enjoy the younger dancers but I really did get into it. Why not alternate, this year original format, next year the younger ones again.
