What’s This TV Show About?

A dark comedy streaming on the Amazon Prime Video paid subscription platform, Transparent stars Jeffrey Tambor, Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker, and Jay Duplass. After some false starts, patriarch Mort Pfefferman (Tambor) comes out to her family as Maura — a transgender woman. Maura’s honesty prompts the revelation of other long-held family secrets. Owning their realities will send each of the Pfeffermans onto new paths of self-discovery, as the series delves into themes including family, identity, sex, love, and religion.
 

Telly’s Take

We don’t have to worry that Amazon will cancel Transparent, since it has already renewed it for season five. What remains to be seen is whether it is a fifth and final season. Because she has other irons in the fire, creator Jill Soloway is handing the showrunner reins over to Jill Gordon for the next installment. Since this is an Amazon series, there are no ratings to track, so I’ll keep an eye on the trades and update this page with any breaking developments.
