Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I loved this show. I’ve been looking for it and I also watch mercy but I rather have trauma back. This show was amazing
This is insane. Trauma is one of the best shows on TV! Where are they getting their numbers? I can tell you my brother & I never missed an episode. This is the worst decision that NBC can possibly make. Cancel Jay Leno for Christ’s sake! Cancel 30 Rock, The Office, & some of the other crap shows that take up room where the good shows should go! I knew NBC was stupid, this will definitely take me away from that network!
Now theres nothing on nbc to watch! Moving to fox!
Thanks NBC for cancelling Trauma.NOW THERE IS’INT NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO AFTER A LOUSY MONDAY. Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t cancel this program, it’s the best thing going on NBC!! Next you will cancel MERCY!!!
This show was one of my favorites! Why would you cancel it??? Please keep it, it was one of the best shows on! No other shows on NBC interest me but this one! This makes me so mad!
I LOVED Trauma…I do live in the bay area so it was great to have something familiar. I am VERY disappointed that it has been cancelled. I can think of many more that probably should be cancelled…but why Trauma? The characters were great and the premise was amazing. Please bring it back…
Please bring it back!! it’s one of those shows that you can’t wait to see the previews for. And when you’re watching it you feel that it’s only been on for half an hour instead of an hour because you get caught up in it. We love this show!!!
Why would you Cancel It!!!! such a great, great , great show since Third Watch……..PLease bring it Back ASAP!!!!!!
Trauma was great…characters just being developed…why cancel…
why not work on a drama that has merit. Do the powers of decisions watch tv?????
I’ve been wondering where this show has been. Mercy and Trauma have been 2 excellent adds. I’m very surprised that the network has cancelled Trauma. It was good adult programming, and not one of those idiotic sit-coms. Bring Trauma back.
What? this is crazy! Bring it back! Finally a decent show on tv and you cancel? I can think of MANY more you should be cancelling that aren’t fit to watch.
Here is an idea…what about taking off the STUPID show Heroes and putting Trauma something that is worth watching back on the air!!
Will say it again…Trauma was alot..no..extremely better than ER any day!! Can’t believe they (who makes these stupid decisions anyway) decided to cancell it…should have cancelled Mercy instead!!!
IT WAS A GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!! NBC does not know what they are doing. they need a show like that on! they took off ER that was a good show. they took off third watch THAT WAS A GOOD SHOW TOO.
