Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Are you serious? Trauma was the best! NBC is my favorite network but I might have to change my mind if they keep cancelling the good shows! Bring back Trauma and Friday Night Lights!!
I really enjoyed Trauma. To cancel doesn’t make sense to me. There are shows on that I can’t sit and watch. I think it is a mistake to cancel this show and the people I know feel the same way. Give it more time to catch everyones attention…..
This is the worst idea that NBC has had!!! This was a great show! Better than ER, Third Watch or Jay Leno!!! WTF NBC???? BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
NBC – what’s the matter with you! First you move Jay (we love Jay), but the new series stunk! It was much better – new ideas are not even funny. More bad than good. Bring back the old one – put Arsenio Hall on more often and use what you were using. 90% better than the new one. Bring back Trauma in place of something (as another commentor stated “instead of a stupid comedy”.!!
Bring it back! We loved it!!!
That was one of the best shows I have seen in a very long and I really loved it…. I am very disappointed it has been cancelled…
My family along with several friends were extremely disappointed that Trauma is being cancelled. NBC should be shamed. Another bad call. This is the first medical show that my husband has sat down to watch with me. The intensity was phenominal the the story plots excellent. Mercy does not hold a candle to Trauma.
CANCEL THE STUPID SHOW SCRUBS AND KEEP TRAUMA!!!
This is the best action packed show that is on t.v. I just realized it has been canceled. That figures they cancel a good show and not some stupid reality show that already has 10 others like it on. The show is very comparable to the hit show Third watch. How disappouinting, how could anyone not watch this show.
This show was not given a chance. I’m sorry to say that NBC just lost a another viewier.
I will not watch much of NBC anymore everytime I enjoy a tv show they cancel it shame on NBC!!!
I can’t believe that they cancelled Trauma, get a good show on TV and they always cancel it. Bring it back and give it a good chance, take off a stupid comedy show!
I am so dissapointed they are canceling this show! I work in the emergency medical field and was excited to finally see a show that depicted that aspect of patient care. It was well written, the setting was great, and the actors were enjoyable to watch. I really wish they would try another day and time slot.
I loved this Trauma series. I loved the San Francisco setting. Why do we cancel all the good programs?
I can’t believe they are canceling the show. I was happy they finally came out with a medical show I enjoyed. They need to change the time slot to another night and stay away from Monday night. Please give this show another chance on another night!!!!!
I can’t believe they cancelled this!!! It was an excellent tv series. My husband and I were wondering what happened to it, so I decided to research it on the internet. I think they should bring it back. The cast was great. I don’t think it was the fault of the writer’s or the actors. Maybe the time slot was bad, or the advertising for it was lacking. I definitely think they should give it another chance.
