Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Until this fall,I had pretty much given up on the ‘local channels(nbc, abc, csh) and even fox. This september,I discovered a new show(Trauma) that I loved. The cast, the special effects…all well done.
I’m a retired teacher….this cancellation stinks.
Maybe Direct TV will pick it up as they did with “Friday Night Lights”.If not…what a shame!!!!!!!!!!
Is upset that NBC has cancelled yet another good show.I guess trash wins out over good t.v. Yet another reason why I am tired of t.v. and networks.I love Mercy as well and it looks it too may be hitting the cutting block. If this is true I am done watching NBC.
I was hooked on NBC’s new show Trauma in the first 3 minutes. I’m very sad and disappointed that NBC has YET again cancelled an excellent show. I can’t beleive that they are bringing back a show(Chuck) about something that is completely unabtainable. Come on, a guy becomes this “magical” spy all of a sudden??? Traumas happen every day in our real life and to be able to see what happens from the paramedics and pilots viewpoint gives us an understanding of what they go through to risk their lives to keep our lives going. Shame on NBC for canceling… Read more »

I am very disappointed in the cancelling of Trauma. I loved that show and so did my mother in law, we are very disappointed. We would really wish to see it back on TV.
I am very disappointed in the news of cancelling Trauma. My daughter really wants to be a paramedic and her and I enjoyed TRAMA very much . BAD IDEA, as Trauma actors were role models to those wanting be in the medical profession. Very sad. Every show that is a good one seems to get cancelled !! To bad NBC..it would have been a good one like ER was.
Cancelled ??Why ? I was anxiously awaiting the show to return afetr the holidays and it never did. The show was great and maybe it would have done better following Mercy or something. It was a great show and I was shocked to see it had been cancelled.
I think that ending Trauma was a bad idea. I am a medic in AL and trauma was the one show that showed people what medics do. And it gave a chance to teach on when to call 911. The show actually showed things that we are trained to do, and did them correctly
Highly disappointed in this news. Don’t know why ratings were low; this was by a large margin the best medical ensemble on the tube. It was even ahead of Grey’s, especially in the latter’s later shows (try THAT 3 times fast…get your tang toungled up…) recently. Trauma had ENERGY, sorely lacking elsewhere. Try a slot change first, Mr. Management. After all the other things this network has blown of late, it would be a shame to blow one of the few truly good shows on ANY broadcast network by going to the cut-and-run bit too soon. (Ooh…that’ll leave a mark.)… Read more »
I am sorry to see this show end. No other show incorporated the use of a helicopter, and the staff did a great job portraying the daily grind of EMS. It was the first show to portray EMS in a positive light.
I loved this show, and am very disappointed in it’s cancellation. Boo to you
I liked the show “Trauma”. I am sorry it was cancelled, but then alot of shows I like were cancelled.
It seems you keep cancelling all the show that are interesting. WHY? This was a mistake to cancel this show.
my boyfriend and I loved this show and we are VERY disappointed that it has been cancelled. Stupid decision NBC.
