Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I was looking for Trauma not knowing it was cancelled!! I really enjoyed the show with my girlfriends. To sad that it got cancelled.. I will miss the show!
I think Trauma should be brought back I use to work Monday night so I would DVR it just so I could watch it Tuesday morning before going to school. Trauma had to be my most fav TV show of all time and now I won’t have anything to watch now. Trauma needs to be put back on or another channel need to take them.
Trauma is (was) a good show-there were a few gaffs in it that would never happen in real life..i.g. driving the “BUS” with a missing winshield and smashed up body. But, the show should continue it was entertaining..Typical of NBC big shots–look what they are doing to Leno & Conan
I loved Trauma; I would DVR the show because I have too much do in the evenings. I watched it religiously on my day off and was very upset when I found that it was no longer recording. I searched for the show on the program guide but had no luck. I wish that they would bring it back or that another TV station would pick it up.
I can see why your network is in trouble. This is the first year that I have watched more than one show on your network. I have always watched Law and Order SUV and I watched Law and Order Criminal Intent until you changed the main character. However this year, I have enjoyed two more shows. I loved Trauma which has been canceled and I love Mercy. I am sorry that you saw fit to cancel Trauma. Maybe you should quit worring so much about your late night hosts and concentrate on prime time. Until then, I will stick with… Read more »
I loved Trauma! I really hope they think about what they are doing!
Yes please bring Trauma back, I loved this show.
NBC NEEDS TO BRING BACK TRAMA IT SHOWED WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE PATIENTS WENT TO HOSPITAL, IT IS A GREAT SHOW AND FOR NBC TO CANCELL IT AND LEAVE ON MERCY IS A DISGRACE. YES, I LOVED ER AND WATCHED EVERY SEASON AND EVERY SHOW EVERY WEEK BUT TO TAKE A EXCELLENT SERIES LIKE TRAMA OFF AND LEAVE MERCY ON IS TAKING ITS VIEWERS AWAY FROM NBC. THINK TWICE AND PUT TRAMA BACK ON JUST VIEW IT DURING THE WINTER SEASON. IF YOU WERE GOING TO END IT YOU SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST HAD A TWO HOUR SEASON FINALE. NBC CANT… Read more »
I was a big fan of ER and when it was canceled I was not happy,,,until “TRAUMA” came along. I loved that show and I feel that NBC executives have their heads up in that dark place for canceling it. What is the matter with you guys, you keep a program on called “Mercy”, a show about a nurse that thinks she is better and smarter than Doctors, then you cancel “LIFE”, lose “Medium” nad cancel a show that depicts medical personnel in real life drama. What were you thinking, shame on you. Bring back trauma and get back the… Read more »

Trauma is a very interesting, great show! This should not be cancelled.
So disappointed that Trauma was cancelled. I was hooked on the show just watching the previews, before the series started. I loved the cast and the storyline. I don’t watch much tv, but this one keep me coming back week after week.
This show was exciting, real life drama, that us in the medical field see everyday. You really need to bring it back. I couldn’t wait to see it when i got home from work. Who cares about all these reality shows….boo hoo….Trauma is LIFE!!!!
