Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I am very upset this show was canceled! I had no idea this happened.
I looked forward to it every week. I like it better than Mercy.
I thought it took the place of ER! I was loyal to ER and I believed that
Trauma was going to go to the top. I’m sorry to see it go. I hope the network
changes it’s mind and gives it a chance.

I really liked the show. I have been wondering what happened to it since I have not been seeing any advertisments for it. I am truely upset that the network decided to cancel this one.
I loved this show. I had something to look forward to on Mondays. This is better than the reality shows that are on now. We need more shows like this. Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was very upset that they had cancelled Trauma. I looked forward to it every Monday. My oldest son really liked the show, too. He is also very upset that it won’t be airing anymore. Hopefully there will be alot more people upset and they want to bring it back.
I’m an EMT and I could relate to the show. I loved it!!!!
my sister and I were extremely disappointed when Trauma was canceled! we could not believe it cause we thought that show was awesome! I really hope NBC gets enough complaints about the cancellation and they opt for making new episodes. I can honestly say that Trauma is better than Mercy and yet Mercy hasn’t been canceled; although I also watch Mercy I would prefer a million times to watch Trauma instead! come on NBC..give Trauma another chance!! (great cast by the way!)
I too, am disappointed that the show was cancelled, I am just finding this out now, lol. I thought the show just took a break for the holiday and then tonight it occurred to me that it must have been cancelled. I had been looking for a Monday night show for a while and was pleasantly surprised by Trauma. Oh well, guess ill just go back to not having a Monday night show. First this, now taking Conan off the Tonight Show, NBC has lost me as a viewer.
We looked forward to watching Trauma every week. We got to know the characters and loved the action and story lines. What a huge loss. Miss it a lot. Wish they would bring it back.
I am sorry to see the show cancelled. I am an EMT/Firefighter and can relate to some of the scenarios that are thrown out there. Some are a little off the wall though but still a good show. I looked forward to watching it after my Monday night trainings at the fire department. I hope maybe NBC will take another look at it.
I am extremely dissapointed that Traume has been cancelled. To me it was the best show since ER. It was different. We were no longer seeing what was going just in the ER but how it started from the outside and not just the doctors saving lives but the paramedics as well. This was a kick ass show. I can’t beleive you cancelled it.
Are there anymore pending episodes to show for the final one or did you already show the last one in 2009?
I thought the show had promise. It had a few bugs but what new series don’t? I enjoyed the show and hoped it would continue.
i think trama is a excellent show. I like it so much better than Mercy.
I am so sad it will be cancelled. I really liked watching it on Monday night.
trauma was a great show. i looked forward to it every monday, during the short period it was on. good acting, cute actresses and actors, good stories. bring it back nbc!
Bring it back. We need more dramas not reality crap!!!
My husband & I loved Trauma. The actors are do a great job. Please bring it back.
My wife and I were big fans of ER. It was the only show that we really watched consistently. When it went off the air there was a big void in our viewing that needed to be filled. When we found a new show caleed “Trauma” we were very happy. We were able to DVR it, and watch it on Friday nights. It is a sad day again in NBC that it has been canceled. Shows like “Hill Street Blues”, “ER” and Trauma” are much superior to the other TRASH that is now on the TV.
I loved Trauma, and wish it had not been canceled. As usual they screwed up, I will boycott the network until they bring it back!
