Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Why am I not surprised to see NBC screw up once again; Now Chuck and Heroes are the only shows keeping NBC’s primetime alive and they’re both on Monday nights. C’mon NBC Fire the idiots ******** everything up and hire someone with some common sence and loose Mercy, I can’t count on my hands how many hospital shows there’s been, at least Trauma was original and actually had a unique plot with unique characters and unique situations. House is the closest medical show to being like that it it’s on Fox.
The Show Suck’s OVER ACTING & THE WRITING JUST SUCKED thank you N B C !!!
I think Trauma is a great show! Shame on NBC! Why not let the viewers call the shots once in awhile? The show wasn’t given a chance!
I love this show! It’s so interesting and keeps me glued to the TV, which is very difficult to do. The characters are so life like (I worked as a nurse in an ER for awhile…). I’m sad to see it leave the line-up, and I hope they somehow wrap up the stories. Someone who knows what they’re doing should be in charge of what gets yanked off the air! There’s a lot of junk out there…
I really like the show and was looking forward to season 2 I couldn’t wait for Monday night
i really enjoyed the cast I am at a lose for words
Please bring it back
I am totally devasted over the cancelation of the show Trauma. The show had fantatic exciting spontaneous story lines. My 13 yr old son and I faithfully watched. Every show. Every show was exciting and had unique stories. Most of the time you never new when the trauma was going to strike. We are sick to here that the show has been cancled. Never fails finally a good show and the network yanks it.
I am very unhappy this show was cancalled. I couldn’t wait for every Monday night for this show. NBC needs to bring this back, try a different day or time.
Good Show, really enjoyed it but life goes on…..
I can’t believe it! Yes they sure should of cancelled Mercy, Trauma was way better! I looked foward to seeing what was coming up the next week… I remember making sure what ever I had going on that nite, I would make sure I was in front of the TV at Trauma time! I just dont understand…
I thought Trauma was unique medical drama because it dealt medical employees outside of the hospital and in the field plus you had famous New Zealand Maori Polynesian actor Cliff Curtis and I am also a Hawaiian Polynesian from Hawaii. I thought it was a bum trip that they cancelled the show.
Trauma was an excellent show, one of a kind. No comparison to ER or Mercy. Should have cancelled Mercy – garbage series.
Wow… I am stunned. I am not sure why you would cancelled such a great show. I guess it doesn’t matter if we the viewers would request that you reconsider. Removed to fast and too soon.
I can’t believe they cancelled this show. I didn’t like Mercy as much as I enjoyed watching Trauma. I even had got my husband into this show which is a big step and then they cancelled. He and I looked forward each week to watching this show. It had grown on us and now we are left hanging wondering what is happening with everyone. NBC made the wrong choice.
I can’t believe they cancelled Trauma and kept Mercy. It was sad enough to lose ER, I understand every show has it’s life span, not to mention the two choices to replace ER were not the greatest at first, but trauma grew on me along with the story line and it’s cast. I hate Mercy, it’s the worst of the two. Well now I have no reason at all to even watch NBC.
It figures – Typical NBC move: Cancel the Good stuff and leave the garbage, then wonder why no one watches their network. I mean, why keep Leno, and obvious success when they can replace him with a spastic, idiotic, immature **** named Conan? Thank God I don’t have to pay for what I see on NBC, I Wouldn’t!
