Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Of course they canceled it…It was too good…How could you cancel Rabbit…..Soe smart network like ABC will surely pick it up…..Everybody knows NBC is not that bright…
NBC No Brains Corporate…..
I agree with Granny, I looked forward to it every Monday night. It is a show that had me on my toes. Lots of action with a little bit of drama. Whats a show without that??? Can’t wait till it airs again.
I am supppppppppper dissapointed this show has been cancelled. I loveeddd this show and it happened to be one of my favorites. I think this show deserves a spot instead of the lame jay leno show.Hopefully it is brought back.
Bring back trauma, its an excellent show, with actioned packed story lines.NBC you suck if you drop this show!!!!!!!
i love the , its nbc’s best show they have on the air. i really only watch nbc for that show. so keep it on. matt from florida
Thank God they dumped “Trauma”. What a contrived soap opera of a show. A little “Mexi-American” female driving a large rescue helicopter, while always consulting with her mom about the goings-on in the barrio and her Mom’s worry about her little daughter. The hard core female leads with looks that are from the Fox News stable of “chippies” to excite the blood flow of young American males. All the contrived scripts in the politically correct SF to show the way all Americans should feel about all issues…
All BS…. All Done… Thank God… All Gone!
troubled much….
OMG
DaGardenGuy…….maybe you need a little more time in the “Garden” to mellow out
your mood. Who are you so angry with??
Lot’s of issues in YOUR words.
Good news!! Trauma returns Monday night of March 8 and the network ordered 10 more shows. Now to pull the ratings up. NBC is trying to refill the spaces left by the Leno show’s cancellation.
Hope they don’t put it against “24”, that will kill it again!
I looked forward to a show without seeing chopped up bodies on the slab. I liked the characters and the actors that played them. I enjoyed the plots and storylines.
Since you people at NBC are obviously screw-ups, let me help pull your bacon out of the fire by offering a solution…..
Give Trauma the Jay Leno spot at 10:00 pm on the night of your choice!!!
I agree! Give the 10:00 slot. Trauma was a good show.
WHY WOULD YOU CANCEL SUCH A GREAT SHOW???
That STINKS!!
(must have something to do with money-that’s always the reason)
I LOVED TRAUMA & I THINK YOU SHOULD PUT IT BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love this show! It makes me so mad for the network to cancel shows that haven’t had a chance to to found out yet. Just about the time you remember what time & station it comes on, they take it off. I sure hope they change their minds.
I’m really disappointed. I loved the characters, and it never felt like a soap opera. The emotions that the show evoked, were moving.
I was crushed when they announced ER’s final season, but was lifted back up again when Trauma started—-how many times will NBC crush me before I quit watching their shows altogether?!?!!?
Have you people lost your minds?! Trauma is a great show. Why do you cancel good shows, instead of promoting them and giving them a chance to launch? Must the money be so immediate? Have you heard of longterm investment? Trauma is the kind of show that makes people feel safe in these insecure times; that the ” cowboys” can ‘copter in and save us. Why would you want to contribute to people feeling that nobody’s there to save them? Have you thought about making humane contribution and then making money? Not a bad model. Please think about it. this is the final blow. i loved trauma. looked forward to seeing it each week. actors were captivating and was hoping to have more time to learn about the characters. for the last several years any show that i really enjoy has been cancelled, sometimes without completing the season. so i’m done with tv. books, movies and internet from now on.
