Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

WTF……….how can you do that???? to all of the famlies of first responders, it was a show we could all relate to can’t believe its gone
Awe, I’m so disapointed. I was really enjoying the show and got a few co-workers into it too 🙁
i cant believe trauma is going to be cancel. that is the closest it can be with real life… those other medical shows SUCK….
NO!!! I love this show! This show fails in the ratings, while Jersey Shore gains mega-fame. Screw TV.
We loved this show – at least it was a great change from all the CSI & Law shows. It’s getting so you can’t watch anything different without it being cancelled !!!! Phew–! What’s up with networks all having the same types of show Don’t they think they would attract more viewers if each stuck to a different assortment ?
Dissapointed
I can not believe they cancelled this show!! This was one of the few programs I looked forward too!! The action was awesome – Mercy is just a bunch of drama queens sleeping with each other. No plot, no action. They cancelled the wrong show!!
Damn, i thought all shows move to Friday night before they get canceled… I like Trauma, they should have canceled Mercy…
I can’t believe NBC cancelled such a wonderful show. It was action packed from the time it started until it ended. It seems like everytime a good show comes out then it gets cancelled. NBC is crazy! I don’t care for any of the new shows that came out when this aired. This was the best one on tv. They need to bring it back. Maybe NBC should start taking pols from the people who watch tv and get a little feed back before they go jumping the gun!
I loved that show
I am pissed
I loved this show!!! I was looking forward to watching it every week! I can’t believe it was cancelled!! I would much rather watch this then Mercy…which I now watch because Trama’s not on!! Bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome action in this show. My husband and I both looked forward to seeing it every week. We wondered what happened when all of a sudden, it disappeared. I am not a fan of Mercy; just not realistic enough to keep my attention. We want Trauma back!!!!
I can’t believe that Trauma is going to be cancelled and they are keeping Mercy. As a healthcare worker I am amazed that Mercy has made it this far. It is the most unrealistic medical show I have ever seen!
Worst mistake they ever made it was a wonderful show. It took the place of ER yeah Mercy is good but Trauma was much better
UGH!! I absolutely LOVED that show! What’s up NBC?
I was really getting into the show. I am really upset that the show was cancelled. I dont watch a lot of TV and this was a show that I looked forward to seeing. The characters were really getting exciting. NBC are fools for letting it go so early.
