Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This was a good show. What a shame.
I loved Trauma, and will be disappointed if it is canceled.
As a firefighter/emt I loved the show. I liked the action and the drauma. I say bring it back.
I’m agree with you!! Trauma is a great show!
I want Trauma!! Come back!
Mercy cannot compare to the reality based Trauma. Between relationship dynamics and, the situational environments……..Trauma will be missed.
You can take Mercy, and place it in a bedpan.
We are ardent fans of TRAUMA and are not happy it is cancelled. Put it on a later
time slot (as suggested 10.00 pm) or another day. It is a well acted and energetic
show!
i LUVED THIS SHOW AND WONDERED WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO IT. i’M SAD THAT IT IS GONE.
i love this show way more than mercy and they cancel it, and as far as them keeping all the reality shows ….THAT REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!! they should take some off the air, i got enough reality in my life, i need some TRAUMA. PLEASSSSSSSSSSSE bring Trauma back. i don’t really watch NBC as it is, except for law and order and mercy and would trade mercy for Trauma, now u r really doing ur ratings in. Like someone else said, people sometimes watch these shows on ON DEMAND or online to catch up, we all don’t have aliened schedules. i… Read more »
My family and I really enjoyed Trauma. It was fast paced, humorous and enjoyable. Why not put it in one of the 10:00 slots that have opened up!
NBC, without a doubt, has the nastiest habit of bringing on good new shows and then cancelling them before they get a chance to take hold. They did that with Heist. They just did it with Trauma. Yet, they will pillory and threaten you if you DARE to download one of their shows from a file sharing site to watch when it’s convenient for you. Hey, NBC, are you TRYING to kill your network? Do you realize you are killing off your audience with your hostile attitude? Do you realize we live in 2010, and lots of people download programs… Read more »
I actually enjoyed Trauma 10 times more than Mercy and would love to keep watching it. I enjoy the actors in their roles and the interesting story lines.
HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED, FRUSTRATED, AGGRIVATED!!! Can’t believe you have canceled such an awesome show!!! It seems like you would poll the people & get #’s that way rather than your dumb ratings!! I like Mercy, but Tauma was way better!!!
PLEASE RE-CONSIDER BRINGING TRAUMA BACK!!!
First Conan then Trauma…I don’t think you guys know what is good programing around there. I guess with those two gone though I know I don’t have to worry about wondering if anything is NBC anymore! So thanks for that.
Working as an RN all my life and watching ER from the first show to the last episode, Trauma was great! It was better than ER. Too bad – best show NBC had. Tells me the density of shows people today watch.
WHY DO THE ALWAYS LEAVE THE LOUSY REALITY SHOWS ON AND CANCEL THE GOOD SHOWS?
