Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

when i first watched trauma i thought it was trying too hard to be cool and action packed, esp with that “rcckin” opening track. i watched it like a rubber necker. i’d say halfway through the series, the show def grew on me, and I started to anticipate mondays to watch the next episode. the characters had developed, storylines were stronger and I wasn’t just watching the show to recognize where they were filming in sf, where I live. i was checking hulu to see what happened to rabbit and nancy after episode 18 and finally realised the show is… Read more »
Why can’t leave the good stuff and get rid of the really bad stuff…my God this was a really good show, it was exciting and the characters were actually really good for a change. Our household will miss it a lot, we always made sure to tape it if we couldn’t be home in time. Very big dissappointment.
It was a good people interaction/action show. I liked. I am disappointed it was cancelled. There are so few good shows out there and this was a good one. In my mind it was better than Mercy.
This sucks! I watched it every week… if not when its on then on demand!
i miss it 🙁 and it didnt even get a good ending…
I am very disappointed that the show is being canceled. I look forward to watching the show and enjoy it and the actors very much. Its a shame the are canceling a good show. I miss it would be reconsidered.
The show was so aswome I couldn’t wait for Mondays to come any sooner. I was left hanging and wondering what was next. I had to find out on my own that it was canceled.
I am glad this show is cancelled.
It is completely inaccurate of what medical people do.
This show was horrible.
You are clearly in the minority Jett. Who cares if the show is accurate or not. It was a good show. I gave up on accuracy oin TV long ago. Just entertain me!
I am very disapointed to hear that this show is being cancelled. :[ I am very saddend to see it go i would pick Trauma over Mercy anyday!
Yes yes yes I am disappointed the show has been cancelled. It was a agreat show and if i missed it due to work or whatever, I made I went back and watched the show. This is awful they need to bring it back… pass that on thank you.. Truma lover…
Why cancel an actual good show? I liked it, real action…instead of stupid plots. Why not cancel Heroes…now there is a dumb show!
I am very dissapointed that the show has been canceled. By doing such actions you left us all hanging on whats next for all of the characters. Whats next for Rabbit an Nancy? Marisa,Rabbit and her boyfriend? Last but not least Tyler an Boone?
I have received several replys to my comments. I know a lot of people set back and take it but I want NBC to sit up and listen to the veiwers. Think if no one listens to all the people who have logged into this site and asked to keep Trauma, there are so many other sites with petitions and NBC does as always and neglects the viewers who purchase from their advertisers, so please write email them and tell them we would like to keep Trauma. Maybe they will listen.
i absolutley love the show… i watched every episode. im really sad its cancelled.
It’s a real shame to see such a cool medical show go off the air. The actors are all young and quite attractive. I’m sure NBC can promote the show and give it a bigger spin-off. Good story line, easy to follow, the shows’ GREAT!!! BRING IT BACK!!!
What a great show…please keep it going. Only 13 episodes and not alot of exposure by NBC does not help. It needs some marketing ads, one permanent time slot, and see what happens. The cast, the story lines are so good. Keep it going, PLEASE
